As a Manufacturing Engineer Apprentice at Caterpillar, you will learn and contribute across various stages of product development, focusing on improving processes, ensuring quality, and supporting environmental and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Analysis: Examine assembly, testing, and painting processes, evaluating production, cost, quality, safety, and environmental impact.
  • Improvements: Refine processes and workflow to meet customer demands for quality, cost efficiency, and timely delivery while adhering to company rules and standards.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Operations, Quality, Design Engineering, and Supply Chain teams.
  • Skill Development: Gain the skills needed to become a successful manufacturing engineer by moving through essential business areas.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs (Level 2): Mathematics and English at Grade 4 (C) or above.
  • A Levels (Level 3): 112 points from three A levels, including mathematics and a science‑based subject, or a Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Engineering or a related subject with a Merit, Merit, Merit profile. Equivalent academic qualifications are welcome.
  • You can apply with predicted grades. If successful at the interview stage, the job offer will be conditional on achieving the required grades before 31 August 2026.

As part of this programme apprentices are required to attend university and complete learning that leads to nationally recognised qualifications. University of Coventry is our partnered training provider, and the 5‑year degree apprenticeship scheme will enable you to grow and develop your capabilities. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you are likely to be offered a position within our world‑class team with significant long‑term progression opportunities.

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: £24,900, rising annually throughout the programme to a final apprenticeship wage of £33,900.
  • Location: Desford, Leicestershire.
  • Benefits: 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays, the opportunity to buy and sell bonus, a contributory pension scheme where Caterpillar doubles the employee’s contribution up to 10 %, a contributory share scheme where Caterpillar matches 50 % of the employee’s contribution, optional flexible benefits including access to private medical, health and dental care plans, and an EV car lease.
