Salary: starting salary £37,900 rising to £42,000 once fully skilled in role

Contract: Full time & permanent

Hours: 37.5 hours per week on either a day shift or afternoon shift pattern.

  • Day Shift
    • Monday: 05:30-14:30
    • Tuesday to Thursday: 06:00-14:30
    • Friday: 06:00-11:00
  • Afternoon Shift (20% shift premium)
    • Monday: 14:00-23:00
    • Tuesday to Thursday: 14:00-22:30
    • Friday: 10:45-15:45

Location: Desford, Leicestershire

The Opportunity: We are looking for a Maintenance Technician to help maximise equipment reliability and performance within Caterpillar's Desford Paint Facility. Working as part of the maintenance team within a multi-shift manufacturing environment, you will play a key role in delivering proactive maintenance, reducing unplanned downtime and ensuring critical manufacturing equipment operates safely, efficiently and reliably. Your work will directly support production performance, asset reliability and continuous improvement across the facility.

As a Maintenance Technician, you are accountable for, but not limited to:

  • Deliver planned preventative maintenance activities across paint and manufacturing equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve equipment faults to restore safe and efficient operation.
  • Complete equipment inspections and condition assessments to identify reliability risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records within the site's maintenance management systems.
  • Support continuous improvement activities that increase equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Work collaboratively with production, engineering and reliability teams to improve plant performance and safety.
  • Work effectively across a multi-shift operation, maintaining clear communication and handovers between teams to ensure safe, reliable and efficient plant performance.

What You Can Demonstrate:

  • Preventative Maintenance & Asset Reliability: Applies preventative maintenance principles to maintain equipment reliability, maximise asset availability and support production performance.
  • Fault Finding & Technical Problem Solving: Diagnoses and resolves mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic faults using a structured approach.
  • Health, Safety & Compliance: Applies safe working practices and maintenance procedures within a manufacturing environment.
  • Maintenance Systems & Documentation: Uses maintenance management systems to record work, monitor asset performance and support maintenance planning.
  • Multi-Shift Working & Team Collaboration: Demonstrates the ability to work effectively within a multi-shift manufacturing environment.

What You May Have:

  • Automation & PLC-Controlled Equipment: Knowledge of automated manufacturing equipment and PLC-controlled systems.
  • Paint & Process Manufacturing Environments: Understanding of paint shop, surface treatment or similar process manufacturing operations.
  • Reliability & Specialist Maintenance Practices: Familiarity with CMMS, TPM, LEV, DSEAR or reliability-centred maintenance principles.
