Caterpillar Peterlee is the worldwide source of Cat® Articulated Trucks, currently producing an 8-model range used in many industries including mining, construction and aggregates. The facility's manufacturing activities use the latest computer analysis techniques, robotic technology and automated dump body paint plant. Machines from the site are shipped to customers around the world.

The Opportunity
As a Facilities Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting service to the full site operation in meeting the business PQVC goals through maintenance and continuous improvements to the site facilities.


A Facilities Engineer is responsible for a range of site facilities-based maintenance functions including internal and external building repairs and alterations, roadway repairs, energy & utilities, security hardware, cleaning services, HVAC, data & power installations, and in-depth support and coordination of proactive capital projects.


Primary Roles/Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Performing or assisting in both reactive and preventative maintenance & wellbeing activities.

  • Monitoring and maintaining parts and tools inventory for infrastructure components and services.

  • First line support for building service problems and work requests.

  • Working alongside a team of facilities engineers in support of facility value stream customers.

  • Advocate safety culture & performance within the Facilities Team and various contractors managed.

  • Lead and support capital projects in line with departmental strategic plans and business priorities.

  • Support NPI & capacity programs through appropriate resourcing of facility moves.

Degree Requirement
Degree, HNC Level 3 or equivalent experience desired.

Skills, Experience & qualifications you will have:

Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.

Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.

Manufacturing Standards, Procedures and Policies: Knowledge of organizational standards, procedures and policies in manufacturing activities; ability to plan, guide, and monitor manufacturing processes for compliance.

Plant Facilities Management: Knowledge of processes, methodologies and techniques used to manage plant facilities; ability to handle the full spectrum of activities for managing and maintaining physical facilities and infrastructure.

Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment.


Relationship Management: Knowledge of relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers.

Top Candidates will have

  • Heavy Manufacturing facilities maintenance knowledge & experience.

  • Extensive experience and knowledge in construction civils-based projects.

  • NEBOSH/IOSH Certification

  • Worked within the installation and maintenance function, responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of large or multiple facility processes.

  • Monitors processes and procedures for developing and maintaining building security to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Identifies and documents specific problems and resolution alternatives (Fault Analysis).

  • Excellent PC, presentation and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of PUWER/LOLER/CORGI/IEE/CDM regulations and other applicable legislation.
