Caterpillar’s Peterlee UK location is currently hiring an Engineering Project Team Leader. This will be a hands-on leadership and management of multiple ATK specific Large Structures engineering projects involving multiple functions, working with both internal and external value-chain partners.
Job duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Develop Large Structures project scope to address business challenges and opportunities (PQVC).
- Arrange and lead Go See Act workshops for successful PD, Pilot and Pre-Production Large Structures builds.
- Develop Large Structures concepts for NPI, CPI with acute focus on Design for Manufacturing to improve automation efficiency throughout the supply chain (BTS, Robot, CNC machining and Paint).
- Coordinate resources across the businesses with product development groups, value chain and manufacturing.
- Oversee project progress (PQVC); communicate status with stakeholders and participating functional areas; address and resolve problems.
- Direct project staffing; motivate and develop project team and team members.
- Provide effective solutions to technical challenges through strong technical competence, effectively examining implications of events and issues.
Degree Requirement: Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering is highly desired. A Bachelors degree in Mechanical engineering with extensive relevant work experience will be considered.
What Skills You Will Have:
- Products and Services: Deep understanding and demonstrated knowledge of all major aspects of RI Large Structures designs and services (Aftermarket); ability to apply this deep knowledge to multiple large structures within RI.
- Technical Excellence: Proficient use of CREO. Deep understanding of Large structures specific print GD&T including fixturing design for finished weldments and right level machining. Deep understanding of structural Weldments design of thick walled Castings, thick plates (25mm and above), Wear and Abrasive material specs on Work tools. Deep passion and working knowledge of BTS (Laser/Plasma/Gas 1st and 2nd Ops) to maximize Robotic automation of such structural weldments including advanced post weld treatment techniques to manage/optimize structural weight and fuel efficiency. Understanding of various application based Static/Dynamic loading of Large structures (EEF, NEEF, Linkages, Buckets, WTs, Bodies and liners, Pins/Bearings/seals and lubricants, etc.) for major RI products.
- Requirements Analysis: Deep expertise in Design for manufacturing, Knowledge of FEA (linear and non-linear), working knowledge of BTS/robotic/CNC programming methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required technical functionality requirements of large structures throughout the value-chain.
- Influencing Through Expertise: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to use these to deepen own expertise and impact or challenge decisions within and outside own organization.
- Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
- Team Management: Knowledge of effective team building techniques; ability to form and manage effective teams.
- Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment.
- Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.
