Job Title: Customs Compliance Officer
Salary: £39,900 – £48,000 depending on experience
Location: Desford, Leicestershire
Contract : Full time & permanent
The Opportunity
As a Customs Compliance Officer , you will support the day-to-day operations of global trade activities, ensuring compliance with international laws and regulations. You\’ll work closely with internal stakeholders to resolve trade-related issues and contribute to the continuous improvement of our compliance processes for our Desford and Stockton facilities.
What you will do:
As a Customs Compliance Officer , you are accountable for, but not limited to:
- Ensuring compliance with trade laws and regulatory requirements
- Supporting development of standard operating procedures (SOP), processes and controls in accordance with enterprise requirements, changing trade guidance, and business needs.
- Advising UK facility stakeholders on import/export regulations and best practices.
- Assessing basic economic and political risks in international trade.
- Managing the local import/export declaration audit programme

What You Can Demonstrate:
Working Knowledge In:
- International Trade: Applied understanding of import/export declarations including SCDP (Simplified Customs Declaration Processes)
- Analytical Thinking: Practical experience and understanding of HMRC reports, data, and information to support compliance initiatives.
- Problem Solving : Identifying issues and developing resolution strategies using structured remediation approaches.
- Data Gathering & Reporting: Producing reports and interpreting data to support compliance initiatives.
- Managing Multiple Priorities: Handling concurrent tasks and shifting priorities effectively.
Extensive Experience In:
- Accuracy & Attention to Detail: Processing large volumes of trade information/data with precision and implementing quality assurance techniques.
What You May Have:
- Understanding of Export Controls
- Experience in trade compliance role
- College or University degree in business or legal related field
- Proven experience of managing customs functions within a complex fast-paced manufacturing or international logistics environment
- Level 3 Certificate in Customs Compliance (UK)
- Knowledge of the Ricardo Duty Management System or other similar systems
