Job Title: Aftertreatment Design Engineer
Salary: £52,380 + Dependent Upon Experience
Location: Peterborough, Cambridgeshire

Job Summary
We are currently seeking a Design Engineer to join the Aftertreatment Engineering Team. This role will be focused on designing solutions to address challenging requirements, either within New Product Introduction or updates to existing platforms for a variety of Off-highway applications. The successful candidate will serve as an experienced contributor to projects that are complex in nature, working with individuals and teams across global Manufacturing sites, suppliers and customers.

What You Will Do
As a Design Engineer in the team, you will be expected to have a mix of design and development experience, knowledge of IC engines components and / or emissions modules, be able to lead, plan and execute challenging tasks / projects with minimal supervision.
Relevant experience in design and packaging of a variety of emissions modules and fabrications. Preferred but not limited to experience in the following :
- Aftertreatment canning modules, exhaust pipes, clamped joints
- Mounting systems, aluminum and cast-iron castings, fabricated brackets
DEF Mixing units
- Working in a multi-disciplined team to ensure solutions meet customer, durability and functional requirements
- Developing solutions for complex issues arising from the Quality and Manufacturing environments
- Developing strong relationships with suppliers to ensure design solutions are aligned to high quality and cost expectations
- Taking the lead or supporting FMEA on components and systems to identify and address design risks and determine validation needs
- Conduct or generate reports to support component and system design reviews
- Maintain communication to peers, team leader and stakeholders with progress against planned activities
- Development of drawings to Caterpillar standards and other technical data to support the release of parts for prototype and volume production.
- Support field and production issues, determine root cause, put in place containment actions, and develop permanent corrective actions. Work with suppliers and keep stakeholder informed of progress and decisions.

Technical Excellence – Expert Level
Strong technical background (HNC or technical degree preferred in mechanical or automotive engineering) though other qualifications or experience are equally valued / demonstrated progressive experience within a relevant role
Knowledge of Mechanical & preferably an experience in Aftertreatment systems
Good understanding of Component Manufacturing principles & processes
Modelling & Detailing experience in CREO4-7
Self-motivated, teamwork, organised, good communication skills with an ability to manage and deliver tasks to meet commitments.
To collaborate & manage interactions on behalf of Caterpillar with external suppliers to develop design solutions with APQP tools.
Technical Excellence – Superior Level (non-essential)
- Experience of running and participating in FMEA
- Ability to use CREO Simulate
- Experience in component and engine validation & verification
- Bolted joint and sealing experience
- Design experience gained in the off-highway diesel or machine sector
- Knowledge and usage of Team Centre – data management software
- Familiarity with Microsoft O365 including Teams
