Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Corporate Counsel - Procurement to join its in-house legal division on the Procurement Legal Support Team. This role is an excellent opportunity to build a strong foundation in a fast-paced in-house environment while partnering with experienced colleagues and senior business leaders across the enterprise. In this role, you will support commercial transactions and advise on Caterpillar's relationships with strategic suppliers. You will work closely with business clients, including senior procurement and product group leaders, as well as colleagues across Law, Security & Public Policy. The successful candidate will be comfortable managing a high volume of commercial matters, setting priorities effectively, and adapting quickly to evolving business needs. Responsiveness and sound judgment are essential to success in this position.
What You Will Do:
- Draft and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements, primarily focused on procurement relationships
- Partner with internal clients to ensure agreements reflect business needs and protect Caterpillar
- Advise business clients on legal and commercial risks in agreements
- Collaborate with Caterpillar's regional and substantive lawyers to align agreements with enterprise risk tolerances, board resolutions, policies, and procedures
- Engage outside counsel on a limited, as-needed basis
- Build strong relationships with internal clients and colleagues as a valued member of the Caterpillar Legal team
What You Have:
- Risk Management: Knowledge of the processes, tools, and techniques used to assess and manage organizational risk, and the ability to apply that knowledge across diverse situations
- Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of decision-making processes and associated tools, with the ability to analyze situations accurately and exercise sound judgment
- Effective Communications: Ability to clearly and concisely communicate key legal risks to business clients, including senior leaders
- Managing Multiple Priorities: Knowledge of effective self-management practices and the ability to balance concurrent objectives, projects, and activities while making strong prioritization decisions
- Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, and techniques for identifying, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational, or process-related issues
- Resource Management: Knowledge of the resources needed to achieve business objectives and the ability to plan, mobilize, and allocate those resources effectively
- Legal Analysis: Knowledge of legal analysis methods and tools, with the ability to interpret legal and factual information and draw accurate conclusions
- Legal Function: Knowledge of the legal function's core responsibilities, accountabilities, and structure, with the ability to provide practical legal advice and support
Degree and Experience Requirements:
- Law degree and qualified to practice law in England/Northern Ireland
- Experience drafting commercial agreements efficiently and independently
