The Opportunity: An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join the Global Solutions Engineering Group at Caterpillar (N.I.) Ltd in Larne. As part of the Caterpillar Electric Power engineering team, you will play a key role in developing and delivering customer-specific power solutions for a global market. Working within a highly skilled and collaborative environment, you will lead electrical design activities across new product development, engineering change implementation, manufacturing support, and product improvement initiatives. You'll be responsible for delivering innovative, high-quality solutions that meet customer requirements for performance, cost, durability, quality, and serviceability.
What You Will Do:
- Interpretation of consultant drawings & specifications.
- Review new projects with respect to commercial and design implications.
- Prepare submittal documentation for projects and meet with customers to discuss project requirements and review submittals.
- Design of controls and protection for generators, motors and related equipment.
- Selection and specification of components and services.
- Creation of build of materials.
- Provide technical support to Manufacturing and Sales Departments.
- Provide direction to other Engineers in the development of project drawings.
- Review and approve project drawings.
- Develop settings for defined control and protection devices.
- Take the technical lead on projects with respect to the electrical design.
- Work as a member of a project team, maintain project schedule, attend project meetings, and keep electrical manager informed of status, and complete required project metrics.
- Participate in the training and career development of new designers.
- Assist with product testing and/or evaluation when appropriate.
- Represent the department in internal and external meetings.
- Remain current in technology developments and industry standards.
- Assist with the development and updating of procedures, design guides and instruction manuals.
Additional Duties:
- Switchboard design including busbar sizing.
- New panel design considering both temperature rise & ventilation.
What You Will Demonstrate:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent discipline, with proven experience in an electrical design engineering role.
- Demonstrated experience leading electrical design projects from concept through to delivery.
- Strong ability to produce and interpret engineering drawings, calculations, risk assessments, and technical documentation.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, EPLAN, or similar electrical design software.
- Experience in electrical installation design is desirable, including system verification and compliance activities.
Top Candidates will also be experienced in Product Design and Development: Switchboard design. Experience in the use of Creo or similar drawing packages. Experience of working with SAP or similar Enterprise software.
Additional Details: The role is based in the office in Larne 4.5 days per week.
