Overview
Test Booth Technician (afternoons) at Caterpillar Inc. Desford, Leicestershire. Permanent, full-time role (37.50 hours per week). Salary starting £27,850 rising to £29,270 when role triggers are met. Benefits include 27 days annual leave + bank holidays, production bonus, share scheme (50% company matched), contributory pension scheme (company matches up to 10%), free car parking, Caterpillar Benefits scheme. Location: Desford, Leicestershire.
Responsibilities
- Follow documented standard work procedures/instructions to perform safe and defect-free assembly of parts and components using hand/power tools and lifting equipment.
- Follow Caterpillar Production System principles of continuous improvement, waste elimination, and standard work.
- Operate Building Construction Product (BCP) built products where required.
- Train/coach new Assembly Technicians/Apprentices to standard work instructions.
- Keep the work area clean, tidy and safe in line with 5S and TPM.
- Participate in rapid improvement workshops (RIWs) contributing process expertise.
- Adhere to health & safety policy and safe working practices; uphold Caterpillar Values: Integrity, Commitment, Excellence, Teamwork.
- Undertake training and further learning as required.
You Will Be Expected To
- Perform evaluation, functional testing, and basic troubleshooting of product in a Quality manner, according to procedure, within time constraints, and while adhering to Health, Safety and Environmental standards.
- Perform in-process and/or final assembly tests.
- Cross-train to learn skills necessary to be competent in a variety of positions.
- Collate data and perform failure analysis while contributing productively.
- Operate safely at all times, following Safety Procedures and requirements.
- Learn and develop technically; understand basic circuits, read and interpret basic schematic drawings.
Candidate Qualifications
- Demonstrated high level of assembly or mechanical aptitude with good knowledge of assembly practices.
- Ability to read, comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions/procedures.
- Effective communication skills to liaise with various levels of the organisation; strong team collaboration.
- Fully flexible approach to the job role and responsibilities; willing to work overtime; able to use hand/power tools and lifting equipment.
- Prepared to undertake required training/learning; willing to work a multi-shift pattern.
Desirable Skills
- Experience in manufacturing assembly environments; hydraulic, electrical, diagnostic/problem-solving skills.
- Relevant NVQ level 2 or higher.
