Manufacturing Engineering (12 Month Placement Scheme) in Skinningrove

Role Overview

Caterpillar Inc. is inviting applications for a 12‑Month Placement Scheme in Manufacturing Engineering. The scheme will commence in July 2026 at the Skinningrove site, Skinningrove, Saltburn‑By‑The‑Sea, UK. The placement will offer a salary of £26,000 per annum plus a Share Scheme, Pension, and 27 days annual leave (plus bank holidays). The placement students will participate in strategic projects across the organisation, working closely with the Engineering team on real improvement initiatives in the production of track shoes.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside an experienced Project Engineer to gain first‑hand experience of Lean Manufacturing and support efficiency improvement initiatives at the facility.
• Implement facility modernisation and digital and automation strategy projects such as automation and robotic handling of product, digitalisation and cloud‑based systems, paperless operations, and capacity improvement.
• Conduct project feasibility studies and build business cases for identified improvement opportunities.
• Interact and liaise with internal and external departments and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2:2 honours degree (Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, Control Systems, Integrated Engineering).
• ET3 (Eligibility Target Test) score of 50/100+ or equivalent criteria.
• Strong problem‑solving skills, quick learning ability and openness to change.

Application Process

Applicants will apply online and attach a CV. The first stage is a video interview, followed by an Assessment Centre on 17th February 2026 at the Peterlee facility near the Skinningrove site. Successful candidates will receive an offer and start on 6th July 2026. The role requires on‑site presence five days a week.
