Salary: £95,491 + dependent upon experience

Location: Peterborough, UK

The Opportunity:

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Patent Attorney to become an integral part of Caterpillar’s European IP office to support and drive the IP function. This role will consist of working with engineers up through senior management at the various UK and European facilities to develop and implement IP strategies and be responsible for:

Responsibilities:

  • Patent portfolio management, including invention harvesting and working with external counsel to have patent applications drafted and prosecuted
  • IP risk management, including management of conflict matters and post‑grant procedures, such as EPO opposition proceedings
  • IP agreements counselling and support
  • Patent enforcement
  • General IP counselling

Qualifications:

  • Candidate must have a relevant background (e.g., mechanical, electrical, physics) and be a qualified patent attorney, preferably in the UK and at the EPO
  • Whether your experience has been in‑house or in private practice, you must demonstrate strong commercial judgement, excellent communication skills, and be prepared to undertake occasional business travel
  • All applicants must be eligible to work in the UK and be available to be present daily in the Peterborough, UK office
