The Opportunity
As a Data Scientist, you will be an integral part of our dedicated analytics team, supporting the development of data‑driven insights and tools that help Caterpillar and its customers navigate the energy transition.
You will work with stakeholders from Business Development, Marketing, and Engineering to analyse machine and operational data and contribute to customer‑focused analytics solutions.
The role provides opportunities to apply data science to real‑world challenges such as electrification, total cost of ownership and operational optimisation, while gaining exposure to Dev Ops, cloud platforms, containerisation and emerging technologies including Generative AI.
- What Will You Do
- Work with cross‑functional teams to understand data requirements and support analysis activities.
- Analyse machine and operational datasets, including telematics, to identify patterns in usage, performance and energy consumption.
- Support the development of analytical models (forecasting, optimisation, or TCO calculations) to inform business decisions.
- Contribute to the development of data‑driven tools and visualisations to communicate insights to stakeholders.
- Assist in gathering, cleaning, and transforming data from multiple sources, including internal systems and APIs.
- Present findings clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences with guidance from senior team members.
- Continuously develop your understanding of electrification, machine data, and data science techniques.
- What You Have

- Knowledge
- Experience in a Data Scientist or similar analytical role (or strong relevant academic experience).
- Good foundation in statistical analysis and data science techniques.
- Proficiency in Python and common data science libraries (Num Py, Pandas).
- Experience working with structured datasets; exposure to time‑series or operational data is beneficial.
- Basic understanding of APIs or experience working with multiple data sources.
- Experience with cloud‑based data platforms or analytics environments (e. g. AWS, Snowflake) is desirable.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and a willingness to learn.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
