Job Description
As a utilities operative you will support the efficient operation and upkeep of the BCP Desford facility by managing waste processes, operating relevant machinery, and performing general repairs and facility upkeeping tasks. This role is essential to maintaining a safe, clean, and functional working environment.
Waste Management
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Collect, sort, and dispose of waste materials in accordance with company policies and environmental regulations.
- Monitor waste levels and ensure timely removal or recycling.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in waste disposal areas.
- Follow documented standard work procedures/instructions to perform safe and timely removal and segregation of site waste.
Machinery Operation
- Operate waste processing machinery safely and efficiently.
- Conduct routine checks and basic maintenance on equipment.
- Report faults or issues promptly to the maintenance team.
Facility Works Requests
- Perform general repairs across the site, including floor repairs, installations, painting, movement of materials.
- Support upkeep of communal areas, including cleaning, painting, and basic refurbishments.
- Assist with site inspections and ensure compliance with health and safety standards. Examples of these are legionella prevention cycles, Oil sump audits and fluid and oil stock take.
- Control of site spill procedures including response and removal of hazardous waste.
- To use the agility CMMS system to receive and complete specific tasks.
Team Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with other operatives and departments to ensure smooth operations.
- Participate in training and development activities as required.
- Support emergency response and business continuity plans when necessary.
Candidates must have the following skills and experience through previous roles:
- Initiative and strong communication, interpersonal & organisation skills
- The ability to use hand/power tools.
- The ability to read, comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions/procedures.
- Attention to detail, able to work with own initiative and initiative-taking.
- You will possess effective communication skills to consult with various levels of the organization
- Willing to undertake required training/learning.
- Conduct routine checks and basic maintenance on equipment.
- Ability to operate machinery safely and follow technical instructions.
- Basic knowledge of health and safety regulations.
- Good critical thinking skills and diligence.
Candidates may have the following skills and experience through previous roles:
- Experience shows ability to drive RCCA.
- Previous experience in a similar role (e.g., facilities, maintenance, or waste management) preferred.
- Have a fully flexible approach to the job role & responsibilities (willing to work overtime).
