Salary/Grade: £49,519 - £61,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Location: Peterborough

Benefits:

  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Up to 10% bonus
  • Contributory pension scheme - Caterpillar will double the employee's contribution up to 10%
  • Contributory share scheme - Caterpillar will match 50% of the employee's contribution
  • Optional flexible benefits including access to health and dental care plans, EV car lease, holiday purchase.

This role requires 5 days a week in the office.

About E+ES: Caterpillar’s Electrification & Energy Solutions (E+ES) division focuses on delivering advanced electrified power train, zero-emissions products/technologies, and the solutions and services associated with these technologies. We are looking for top talent to build and scale the next generation of technologies, products and services to help our customers build a better—more sustainable—world.

The opportunity: As a Data Scientist, you will be an integral part of our dedicated analytics team, contributing to the development and deployment of innovative business solutions. You will support electrification and enhance understanding of machine and battery performance with respect to customer requirements. This will involve developing mathematical algorithms, coding solutions and analysing results to provide insight to the wider business.

What you will do:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to collect, preprocess, and analyse complex data sets related to vehicle electrification, including battery performance, charging infrastructure, and energy consumption.
  • Predict and improve battery health, degradation, and lifespan through data analysis.
  • Work with team members to develop predictive models for customer behaviours, charging patterns, and energy consumption to optimise vehicle electrification strategies.
  • Develop your understanding of battery electrification, machine analysis and data science techniques by conducting research on data model optimization and algorithms to improve effectiveness and accuracy on data analysis.

What you have:

  • Strong background in numerical techniques, quantitative and statistical analysis.
  • Mathematical curiosity and proficiency with numerical methods such as optimisation.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and the desire to learn and continuously improve.
  • The ability to translate complex requirements and define solutions.
  • Proven experience as a Data Scientist in a technical engineering industry.
  • Demonstrable experience of Python programming and relevant libraries (NumPy, Pandas).
  • Experience with SQL and database technologies such as Snowflake.
  • Evaluates and makes contributions to best practices.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
