Salary/Grade: £40,606 - £47,500 per annum (depending on experience)
Location: Larne

The opportunity: We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Global Solutions Engineering Group at Caterpillar (N.I.) situated at Larne. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role within the Caterpillar Electric Power engineering team. The Global Solutions Engineering Group is responsible for the development of design to order customer specific electric power products. This includes new product development, technical support for operations, processing of engineering changes, investigation & resolution of product quality issues.
What you will do:
- Provide designs of selected projects backed up by 3D models, technical drawings, instructions and B.O.M.’s to enable the manufacture and assembly of specialist genset applications.
- Provide technical and general guidance to associate engineers as required.
- Investigating & resolving issues affecting production of Solutions builds.
- Liaison with other Departments such as marketing, purchasing, validation & quality on the resolution of design specification queries & production issues.
- Specification and requisition of production materials for manufacture and finished components for assembly.
- The recording and control of documentation issued for manufacture.

- Product Design and Development - Level Working Knowledge: Experience designing fabricated structures and previous experience of working in a product design/development environment.
- Technical Excellence - Level Working Knowledge: Provides effective technical solutions to routine functional challenges via sound technical competence.
- Computer‑Aided Design & Engineering - Level Extensive Experience: Working with Creo or similar 3D Modelling Software in a previous role.
- Managing Multiple Priorities - Level Working Knowledge: Responds to day‑to‑day operational priorities while still making progress on project work.
- Analytical Thinking - Level Extensive Experience: Identifies many possible causes for a problem based on prior experience and current research.
- Effective Communications - Level Working Knowledge: Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
Education: A Degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant discipline or demonstrative work‑related experience.
