Salary: £45,519 - £74,278 per annum
Location: Peterborough On-Site 5 Days per week
Benefits:
- 25 days annual leave plus 8 Bank Holidays
- Up to 18% bonus

About E+ES: Caterpillar’s Electrification & Energy Solutions (E+ES) Division will focus on delivering advanced electrified power train, zero‑emissions products/technologies, and the solutions and services associated with these technologies. The Opportunity: As a Data Scientist, you will be an integral part of our dedicated analytics team, focused on supporting the development of data‑driven insights and tools that help Caterpillar and its customers navigate the energy transition. You will work with a range of stakeholders, including Business Development, Marketing, and Engineering teams, to analyse machine and operational data and contribute to the development of customer‑focused analytics solutions.
What will you do:
- Work with cross‑functional teams (Business Development, Marketing, Engineering) to understand data requirements and support analysis activities.
- Analyse machine and operational datasets (including telematics data) to identify patterns in usage, performance, and energy consumption.
- Support the development of analytical models (e.g. forecasting, optimisation, or TCO calculations) to inform business decisions.
- Contribute to the development of data‑driven tools and visualisations to help communicate insights to stakeholders.
- Assist in gathering, cleaning, and transforming data from multiple sources, including internal systems and APIs.
- Present findings clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences with guidance from senior team members.
- Continuously develop your understanding of electrification, machine data, and data science techniques.
What you have:
- Experience in a Data Scientist or similar analytical role (or strong relevant academic experience).
- Good foundation in statistical analysis and data science techniques.
- Proficiency in Python and common data science libraries (NumPy, Pandas).
- Experience working with structured datasets; exposure to time‑series or operational data is beneficial.
- Basic understanding of APIs or experience working with multiple data sources.
- Experience with cloud‑based data platforms or analytics environments (e.g. AWS, Snowflake) is desirable.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and a willingness to learn.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
Top candidates will also have:
- Experience working in a team environment with cross‑functional stakeholders.
- Interest in machine analytics, electrification, or energy systems.
- Experience creating data visualisations or dashboards.
- Familiarity with tools such as Jupyter Notebooks or similar environments.
- A proactive mindset and eagerness to develop new skills.
