Salary/Grade: £49,519 - £61,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Location: Peterborough

About E+ES: Caterpillar's Electrification & Energy Solutions (E+ES) division focuses on delivering advanced electrified power train, zero-emissions products/technologies, and the solutions and services associated with these technologies. The opportunity: As a Data Scientist, you will be an integral part of our dedicated analytics team, contributing to the development and deployment of innovative business solutions. You will support electrification and enhance understanding of machine and battery performance with respect to customer requirements. This will involve developing mathematical algorithms, coding solutions and analysing results to provide insight to the wider business.
What you will do:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to collect, preprocess, and analyse complex data sets related to vehicle electrification, including battery performance, charging infrastructure, and energy consumption.
- Predict and improve battery health, degradation, and lifespan through data analysis.
- Work with team members to develop predictive models for customer behaviours, charging patterns, and energy consumption to optimise vehicle electrification strategies.
- Develop your understanding of battery electrification, machine analysis and data science techniques by conducting research on data model optimization and algorithms to improve effectiveness and accuracy on data analysis.
What you have:
- Analytical thinking: Strong background in numerical techniques, quantitative and statistical analysis.
- Mathematical curiosity and proficiency with numerical methods such as optimisation.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and the desire to learn and continuously improve.
- Requirements Analysis: The ability to translate complex requirements and define solutions.
- Ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven experience as a Data Scientist in a technical engineering industry.
- Programming languages: Demonstrable experience of Python programming and relevant libraries (NumPy, Pandas).
- Query and Database Access Tools: Experience with SQL and database technologies such as Snowflake.
- Accuracy and attention to detail: Evaluates and makes contributions to best practices.
- Education: Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
