About Caterpillar Skinningrove: Caterpillar Skinningrove is a small, focused facility manufacturing track shoes for Caterpillar tractors & excavators. Current demand for track shoes is over 1 million, future focus is now on automation and digitisation with work already being commenced. This is truly an exciting time to be joining the business.
The Opportunity: When you join team Caterpillar as a Manufacturing Project Engineer, you will lead manufacturing projects to improve critical business processes that drive financial results. You will be able to scope moderately complex projects; develop project plans and business cases. You will be asked to motivate, coach and lead improvement project teams. You will be expected to provide technical expertise and guidance in development of major manufacturing projects, working with internal/external suppliers to support/improve manufacturing productivity and cost effectiveness.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Lead Manufacturing projects with an average savings per project of $150,000 and concurrently lead 1-3 projects of this magnitude.
- Identify opportunities, define and financially justify projects.
- Manage the development and maintenance of methods and systems for measuring the degree to which the Manufacturing project goals, objectives and metrics are being met.
- Identify integration issues with other projects/processes and coordinate the improvements with the appropriate project/process owners to accomplish the project goals.
- Recruit and train team members.
- Ensure Manufacturing projects are integrated with other business activities, improvement projects, and business strategy.
- Ensure multi-channel communication throughout the organisation.
- Capture project case histories that can be re-used for other projects.
Degree Requirement: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in an appropriate engineering or technical discipline combined with previous relevant project leading experience or equivalent experience desired.
Skills, experience & qualifications you will have:
- Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
- Capacity Planning & Management – MFG: Knowledge of tools, approaches and practices for determining production demand and ability to manage resources needed to provide satisfactory levels of service.
- Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
- Engineering – MFG: Knowledge of processes, techniques and methods of engineering in a manufacturing environment; ability to design and implement materials, structures, machines, devices, systems and processes that safely realize a desired objective or invention.
- Robotics/Computer Controlled Machinery: Knowledge of robotics technologies and computer controlled machinery; ability to implement and operate robotics and computer controlled machinery in an automated manufacturing environment.
- Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.
Top candidates will have:
- Experience demonstrating Project management or Project leadership.
- Fully Qualified Six Sigma Black Belt.
- Significant experience or technical expertise in designing and/or redesigning service systems such as heat treat equipment, machine tool electrical systems, material handling, filtration, paint systems, and utilities (e.g., water, gas, steam, air, HVAC), or similar infrastructure.
- Experience in fields of manufacturing such as welding, heat treat, and manufacturing technology.
- Good understanding of product design to combine with process design expertise.
- Analytical ability as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem solving.
- Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams such as Product Development, Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Product Support and Operations.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new concepts and apply statistical analysis, with strong foundational computer skills.
