About IPSD
Caterpillar's Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat(R) and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. The Opportunity
We're looking for an Insights Consultant to join our Global Insights & Market Operations team within IPSD's Sales, Marketing, Service & Parts (SMSP) division. This role sits at the intersection of research, technology, and commercial strategy. You'll work closely with our sales, marketing & strategy functions, to deliver insights on market trends, customer signals. You'll use AI and emerging research tools to investigate markets, customers, competitors, and technology trends across the power systems landscape - then turn what you find into clear, commercially sharp stories that help our sales teams win.
What You Will Do:
- Research customers, OEMs, end-users, distributors, and competitors across the third-party power systems market using AI tools alongside traditional methods
- Investigate market dynamics: generator demand, backup power trends, data centre growth, industrial applications, regulatory shifts, and aftermarket opportunities
- Synthesize technical, commercial, and market signals into a single coherent narrative
- Translate insights into sales-ready outputs: account briefs, battle cards, talk tracks, pitch content, and opportunity assessments
- Partner directly with sales teams in the field to understand what they're hearing from customers and equip them with the right evidence and stories
- Track competitor activity, pricing dynamics, and product positioning across the third-party power systems space
- Stay current on emerging AI and research tools and continuously evolve how the team works
What You Will Have:
- Experience within sales/marketing/strategy/research/commercial analytics insights, market - ideally with exposure to industrial, energy, or power systems markets
- Hands-on experience using AI tools (Claude, Co-Pilot, Perplexity, Alphasense or similar) for research, synthesis, and analysis, with a clear view of their strengths and limits
Customer Focus: Knowledge of the values and practices that align customer needs and satisfaction as primary considerations in all business decisions and ability to leverage that information in creating customized customer solutions.
Global Perspective: Knowledge of issues, opportunities, and challenges for conducting business in the international marketplace; ability to apply global perspectives appropriately in a wide range of situations.
Creativity: Knowledge of the approaches, tools, and techniques for promoting creative, original thinking and ability to apply it to a variety of business situations.
Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviours.
Relationship Management: Knowledge of relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers.
Strategic Thinking: Knowledge of the importance of "big picture" thinking and planning; ability to apply organizational acumen and competitiveness to identify and maintain focus on key success factors for the organization.
Intellectual Curiosity: Resourcefulness, and a habit of experimenting with new tools.
Nice to Have:
- Background in power generation, industrial equipment, energy, or adjacent sectors
- Experience building sales enablement content for technical B2B audiences
- Familiarity with Tableau, Power BI, Salesforce, or similar
- Exposure to distribution, or channel-based business models
Additional Information:
This role office based from the office in Peterborough 5 days a week.
Interview will take place towards the end of June 2026.
