Salary: Competitive - depending on experience

Location: Springvale, Belfast, Northern Ireland

Currently the Springvale Facility works 4 days per week, Monday through to Thursday as their core hours.

About LPSD: The Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) has 12 Manufacturing Facilities and 5 Engineering Facilities globally. We deliver operational excellence in manufacturing large power systems and drivetrain components. The Springvale Facility, Belfast supplies Axles and Transmissions through the support of Supply Chain, Logistics, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, EHS and Operations Teams who align to deliver superior safety, quality, velocity and cost to our business partners.

The Opportunity: We currently have an exciting fixed term contract experience for a Manufacturing Engineer to join Caterpillar at the Springvale Facility in Belfast. You will have the opportunity to work with others across our organisation, and you will be directly involved, and at the heart of our business, participating on strategic projects. What you will do:

  • Lead the introduction of new products and processes
  • Identify, define and implement process quality and process design steps in line with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) requirements
  • Identify, purchase and co-ordinate the installation of tooling, equipment, machinery and capital expenditure projects
  • Ensure that Design for Manufacture and Assembly principles are applied through the product development process
  • Interface with the product group(s) & customer representatives to ensure the customer’s technical requirements are translated into the manufacturing processes
  • Ensure new product and process implementations meet safety requirements
  • Ensure accurate new product costing through Bill of Materials (BOM) and routing accuracy
  • Co-ordinate and implement complex engineering changes
  • Conduct problem solving and hold Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations.

What you will have working level knowledge of:

  • Judgment and Decision Making: Knowledge of the decision-making process; ability to carefully evaluate the impact of emerging business situations and choose the best path forward communicating actions and activities that maximize organizational performance.
  • Manufacturing Equipment: Knowledge of the electrical, mechanical and logistics equipment used in manufacturing; ability to safely operate, maintain, update and store them.
  • Manufacturing Processes: Knowledge of existing product manufacturing methods, technologies and processes; ability to execute, plan, manage and monitor the entire manufacturing process.
  • Manufacturing Safety: Knowledge of manufacturing safety; ability to identify work-related hazards and perform necessary activities to meet regulatory requirements for the safety and protection of workers, environment and site.
  • Manufacturing Standards, Procedures and Policies: Knowledge of organizational standards, procedures and policies in manufacturing activities; ability to plan, guide, and monitor manufacturing processes for compliance.
  • Problem Management Process - MFG: Knowledge of manufacturing problem management processes, methodologies and techniques; ability to use a disciplined approach to bringing that problem to a successful resolution.

What Will Set You Apart:

  • A degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical or Electrical engineering or/and relevant manufacturing experience.
  • Experience and knowledge of Six sigma, Lean Manufacturing practices and/or APQP
  • Experience of SAP or another MRP/ERP system.
  • Experience in 3D CAD
  • Relevant experience may include:
    • Introducing new products into a manufacturing environment
    • Project management experience; with the introduction of new products and complex engineering changes
