Grapevine is a division of Caterite Food & Wineservice Limited, a food and drink wholesaler based in the Lake District delivering to customers throughout the North of England and Scotland. After 50 years of trading, the company is entering a new chapter in its history with new ownership, whilst staying true to the values and service which has guided its success so far.

Caterite and Grapevine are in an exciting period of transformational change with significant developments within its business since the company was acquired by METRO in 2024. METRO is an international specialist in food and wine wholesale. ThegroupisheadedbyMETROAG,whichactsasthecentralmanagementholding company. It performs group management functions, particularly in the areas of finance, controlling, legal and compliance. Central management and administrative functions for METRO wholesale are anchored within METRO AG.

Our company is transforming food and wine service through new technologies developed alongside our advanced e-commerce website. Grapevine has worked hard to establish an enviable reputation for supplying premium customers with top-quality wines, beers and spirits, all delivered at competitive prices as part of a friendly and efficient service in which extra is standard.

THE ROLE

The Wineservice Director will be responsible for all activities relating to the business. From the operational performance, portfolio and range development, profit and loss, marketing/brand development, culture and leadership of the Grapevine team. The successful candidate will have total accountability for achieving a mutually agreed financial budget and will be reporting into the Managing Director and wider board of Caterite Food and Wineservice Limited.

We are recruiting for this position to drive Grapevines long-term sustainable growth whilst developing, executing, and continuously adapting to support the wider METRO strategy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Delivering the agreed financial budget, including.
  • Sales, purchasing and commercial maintenance and development
  • Profit and loss accountability
  • Leadership and culture.
  • Training and education.
  • Maintaining levels of communication to the Caterite Food and Wineservice management board.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of running a successful wine/drinks business or operating at a senior/director level within a national distributor.
  • Willingness and ability to be hands on with all levels of the division.
  • Expert level of product knowledge, supply chain and logistics.
  • High levels of energy and be an inspirational leader to develop our existing team.
  • Take ownership of actions and make responsible decisions.
  • Ability to collaborate with our wider company to the benefit of Caterite Food and Wineservice Limited.
  • Able to implement and embrace our business transformation agenda.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to live within a commutable distance to our distribution facilities.

SALARY & BENEFITS

  • £60,000 per annum
  • Additional £15k performance related bonus.
  • Company pension contribution scheme.
  • 48 hours per week. A full time, permanent position.
  • 32 days holiday inclusive of Bank Holidays.
