We are supporting a major UK energy infrastructure programme and seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer to lead all pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up activities across two key UK sites. This role is confidential due to the strategic nature of the project. You will plan, prepare and coordinate commissioning activities from early project development through to final client handover. Initial work will be remote, moving to full-time on-site commissioning from Q2 2027 through June 2028.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commissioning planning: Develop commissioning plans, schedules and documentation.
  • Testing execution: Perform and oversee all commissioning and testing activities in line with National Grid procedures.
  • Team coordination: Lead contractors, site teams and stakeholders across both project locations.
  • Compliance & reporting: Ensure safety, quality, environmental and Grid Code compliance throughout commissioning.
  • Issue resolution: Identify, track and resolve deficiencies during testing and follow-up activities.

Must-Have

  • TP141A National Grid Authorisation
  • Strong commissioning experience on large-scale energy, HVDC or infrastructure projects
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex commissioning phases

Work Structure

  • Now Q2 2027: Remote/home-office (~2.5 hrs/week)
  • Q2 2027 June 2028: Full-time on-site commissioning

Locations: Peterhead, Scotland; Drax (Wren Hall), UK

Travel: Occasional travel between sites, increasing toward project completion
