About the Role
We are looking for an experienced HR Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day HR function and support the continued development of our client’s business.
You will take responsibility for the full employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding through to employee relations, performance, development and exit, while ensuring our HR processes remain compliant, effective and aligned with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities as a HR Manager
- Lead and manage the day-to-day HR function, providing practical advice and support to the Managing Director, managers and employees.
- Manage employee relations matters, including conduct, disciplinary, grievance, absence, capability, performance and wellbeing cases.
- Lead end-to-end recruitment, from workforce planning and job advertising through to selection, offers, pre-employment checks, onboarding and probation reviews.
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records, contracts, policies, handbooks and HR documentation.
- Manage documentation for starters, leavers, contractual changes and other employee lifecycle processes.
- Coordinate performance reviews, training, employee development, succession planning, engagement and retention initiatives.
- Prepare accurate monthly payroll information, including salary changes, holidays, sickness, statutory payments, starters and leavers.
- Support the administration of employee benefits.
- Ensure compliance with UK employment law, right-to-work requirements, GDPR, working-time regulations and company policies.
- Review and recommend updates to HR policies and procedures where required.
- Produce and analyse HR reports covering headcount, absence, turnover, recruitment and other key people metrics.
- Promote a fair, professional, inclusive and performance-focused workplace culture.
- Support organisational change, restructuring, consultation and wider business improvement projects.
- Identify opportunities to improve HR processes, systems and ways of working.
Essential Skills & Qualifications for the HR Manager role
- CIPD Level 5 qualification or above.
- Proven experience in a generalist HR Manager or Senior HR Adviser role.
- Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
- Experience independently managing disciplinary, grievance, absence, capability and performance matters.
- Proven recruitment and onboarding experience.
- Strong HR administration, reporting and payroll coordination experience.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to build credibility and trust with senior leaders, managers and employees at all levels.
- Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Sound commercial judgement and the ability to balance employee needs with business requirements.
- High level of discretion and professionalism when dealing with confidential and sensitive information.
- Confidence using HR systems, Microsoft Office and payroll-related processes.
