The Role

As a Functional Skills Maths Tutor, you will deliver engaging and effective Maths teaching to learners working towards their Functional Skills qualifications.

You will support learners with different abilities and learning needs, helping them develop their mathematical knowledge and confidence while preparing them for assessment and progression.

Key responsibilities include

  • Plan and deliver engaging Functional Skills Maths teaching and learning sessions.
  • Prepare learners for Functional Skills Maths assessments and qualifications.
  • Adapt teaching methods to meet individual learner needs and abilities.
  • Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback and guidance.
  • Identify barriers to learning and provide appropriate support and interventions.
  • Maintain accurate learner records, assessment evidence and progress documentation.
  • Create an inclusive, supportive and positive learning environment.
  • Support learners to develop wider skills that contribute to employability and progression.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure a high-quality learner experience.
  • Contribute to effective Teaching, Learning and Assessment (TLA) and continuous improvement.

Were looking for a passionate and learner-focused education professional with strong Maths subject knowledge and a recognised teaching qualification.

Youll ideally have

  • A recognised teaching qualification, such as PGCE, Cert Ed, DET, DTLLS, PTLLS, AET or equivalent.
  • Previous experience delivering Functional Skills Maths or Maths qualifications.
  • Strong Maths subject knowledge and the ability to explain concepts clearly.
  • Experience supporting learners with different abilities, learning needs and starting points.
  • Understanding of assessment, learner progress and qualification achievement.
  • Experience within Further Education, adult education, employability, skills or vocational training would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A learner-centred approach with a genuine commitment to positive outcomes.
  • Excellent organisation and time-management skills.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative teaching and delivery team.
  • A commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusive learning.
