We are currently working with a well-established and growing main contractor based in High Wycombe, who are looking to appoint an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team. The business delivers a range of new build, refurbishment and fit‑out projects across London and the South East, with project values typically ranging from £1m to £30m. This is an excellent opportunity for a Junior or Assistant Quantity Surveyor looking to develop their commercial career within a supportive and growing construction business.

The Role

  • Working alongside experienced Quantity Surveyors and the wider commercial team, you will be given exposure to a broad range of commercial activities, including:
  • Assisting with the commercial management of live construction projects
  • Preparing and reviewing subcontractor enquiries and quotations
  • Assisting with subcontract procurement and package analysis
  • Supporting valuations and applications for payment
  • Assisting with cost reporting and forecasting
  • Monitoring project costs and expenditure
  • Assisting with variations
  • Reviewing subcontractor applications
  • Assisting with monthly commercial reporting
  • Maintaining accurate commercial records
  • Liaising with site teams, subcontractors, consultants and clients
  • Developing your knowledge of construction contracts and commercial procedures

About You

We are looking for someone who is ambitious, commercially minded and keen to develop a long‑term career in Quantity Surveying. You could be:

  • A Junior or Assistant Quantity Surveyor currently working for a main contractor or subcontractor
  • A recent Quantity Surveying graduate looking for your first commercial role
  • Studying towards a Quantity Surveying qualification
  • Working within construction and looking to move into a Quantity Surveying position

You will ideally have:

  • Some experience or understanding of the construction industry
  • A relevant Quantity Surveying degree, HNC/HND or equivalent
  • Good numerical and analytical skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good Microsoft Excel and IT skills
  • Excellent communication and organisational abilities
  • A willingness to learn and progress
  • A positive and professional approach
