The business operates across four sites, with the role predominantly based in Felixstowe and occasional travel to other locations for audits, new starter onboarding and other Health & Safety requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Take overall responsibility for Health, Safety & Environmental matters, ensuring legal and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Produce, maintain and review risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Carry out regular site audits, identifying improvements and ensuring actions are followed through.
  • Organise and chair regular Health, Safety & Environment committee meetings.
  • Manage fire alarm testing, fire drills and associated records.
  • Maintain accurate accident and near-miss records and ensure reporting procedures are followed.
  • Oversee the inspection and maintenance of equipment.
  • Manage statutory thorough examinations under PUWER and LOLER.
  • Maintain accurate equipment inspection and maintenance records.
  • Carry out PPE assessments and arrange purchasing where required.
  • Deliver HS&E information and training as part of new starter inductions, with further training as required.

The successful Health & Safety Manager will have:

  • Experience in a Health & Safety role, ideally within an engineering or operational environment.
  • A good understanding of Health & Safety legislation and practical workplace safety.
  • Experience with risk assessments, safe systems of work and site auditing.
  • Knowledge of equipment inspection and maintenance, ideally including PUWER and LOLER.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to provide guidance and challenge where needed.
  • A proactive, self-motivated approach with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • The ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the business.
  • A full driving licence, as occasional travel between sites will be required.

NEBOSH or a similar Health & Safety qualification would be advantageous, but is not essential. The company is committed to supporting the successful candidate with relevant training and professional certifications as they develop in the role.
