About the Role
Our client, based near Southampton and the New Forest, is seeking experienced Composite Laminators and Boat Builders to join their team on a contract basis. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-performance marine projects, manufacturing and assembling advanced composite structures using carbon fibre and other composite materials.
The successful candidates will have a strong background in composite lamination and carbon fibre boat building, with experience in wet lay-up and pre-preg carbon fibre processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare moulds, tooling, and materials for composite manufacture.
- Perform wet lay-up laminating of carbon fibre, fibreglass, and core materials.
- Carry out pre-preg carbon fibre lay-up, debulking, vacuum bagging, and curing processes.
- Undertake vacuum bagging, resin infusion, and structural bonding operations.
- Assemble and fit composite structures, bulkheads, decks, interiors, and marine equipment.
- Read and work from engineering drawings, build specifications, and work instructions.
- Trim, finish, and inspect composite components to ensure quality standards are met.
- Identify and rectify defects where necessary.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with project requirements.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience as a Composite Laminator, Boat Builder, or Composite Technician.
- Proven experience working with carbon fibre composites.
- Strong wet lay-up experience.
- Experience working with pre-preg carbon fibre materials.
- Knowledge of vacuum bagging, resin infusion, and structural bonding techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
- Marine, aerospace, motorsport, defence, or high-performance composite industry experience.
- Experience with oven or autoclave curing processes.
- Composite repair and finishing experience.
- Relevant trade qualifications within composites, marine engineering, or boat building.
