We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Social Worker to join a Childrens Services team in Birmingham. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled social work professional to take a lead role in improving the quality of practice across the full casework cycle, while managing a complex caseload involving children, young people and families with significant and challenging needs. You will provide expert assessment, intervention and professional decision-making, while supporting the Team Manager to promote high standards of practice, continuous improvement and positive outcomes for children and families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a complex caseload, providing high-quality statutory social work services to children, young people and their families.
  • Undertake comprehensive assessments and develop effective intervention plans based on the individual needs of children and families.
  • Apply advanced social work knowledge, professional judgement and evidence-based practice when making decisions.
  • Provide professional guidance, advice and support to less experienced social workers and newly qualified practitioners.
  • Coach, mentor and provide informal supervision to colleagues to promote high-quality practice.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of relevant legislation, statutory guidance, national standards, research and departmental policies.
  • Promote effective partnership working with children, families, colleagues and external agencies.
  • Contribute to quality assurance and practice development initiatives across the team.
  • Model best practice and support continuous improvement in children’s social care.
  • Participate in the collection, analysis and reporting of performance information in line with statutory and organisational requirements.
  • Represent Children’s Services at meetings, multi-agency forums, conferences and court proceedings where required.
  • Work closely with the Team Manager to support the effective delivery of services.
  • Participate fully in training, professional development and continuous learning.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to the Senior Social Worker role and the needs of the service.

About You

We are looking for a confident and experienced Senior Social Worker who is committed to achieving positive outcomes for children and young people. You will have:

  • A recognised Social Work qualification and relevant professional registration.
  • Significant experience working within Childrens Social Care.
  • Experience managing complex cases involving children, young people and families.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, statutory guidance and social work best practice.
  • Excellent assessment, intervention, analytical and professional decision-making skills.
  • Experience providing guidance, coaching or mentoring to other social workers.
  • The ability to demonstrate and promote high-quality social work practice.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience working effectively with partner agencies and within multi-disciplinary environments.
  • The confidence to represent Children’s Services at professional meetings, conferences and court proceedings.
  • A commitment to safeguarding, continuous professional development and improving outcomes for children and families.
