Our client is a well-established and growing professional services firm, seeking an Accounts Senior to join their Barnstaple office. This is a varied, client-facing role within a general practice environment, offering technical responsibility, exposure to a wide range of clients, and strong opportunities for career development. The position would suit someone proactive who enjoys hands-on accounting work and contributing to a collaborative team.
The Role
You will work closely with managers and partners to deliver high-quality accounting and tax services to a diverse portfolio of clients. This is a hands-on role where you will take ownership of assignments while also supporting junior colleagues and contributing to overall team development.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing year-end financial statements for sole traders, partnerships, charities, and limited companies
- Preparing VAT returns and assisting with associated client queries
- Preparing personal and business tax returns and computations
- Liaising directly with clients to resolve queries and provide support
- Supporting managers with the development and mentoring of junior staff
- Managing your own workload and ensuring deadlines are met
- Working across a range of clients within a general practice environment
About You:
- ACA / ACCA / AAT part qualified or currently studying
- Experience working within an accountancy practice
- Strong technical understanding of accounting principles and tax compliance
- Confident using accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, or IRIS
- Strong communication skills with a client-focused approach
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail
- Able to manage competing priorities effectively
- Proactive, adaptable, and eager to develop within your career
