Caterham High School is seeking a committed and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join The Maple, our Additional Resource Provision for students with exceptional learning needs, including autism and associated communication and interaction needs.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our successful Access & Inclusion Department and make a significant difference to the educational experiences and life chances of young people with SEND.

Working alongside the Lead Teacher and wider Inclusion Team, you will support students to develop academically, socially, and emotionally within a caring, structured and ambitious environment.

About the Role

  • Deliver learning activities to individuals, small groups and, where appropriate, whole classes.
  • Support students to access learning, achieve EHCP outcomes and develop independence.
  • Promote communication, social interaction, emotional wellbeing and positive engagement in learning.
  • Assist in the planning, preparation and adaptation of learning resources and intervention programmes.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teachers and other professionals.
  • Work collaboratively with families, therapists and external agencies.
  • Support students during enrichment activities, educational visits, PE lessons and swimming sessions where required.
  • Encourage students to participate fully in school life and develop the skills needed for adulthood and future success.
  • What We Are Looking For
  • Has experience working with children or young people in an educational setting.
  • Has experience supporting pupils with SEND.
  • Holds an HLTA qualification or has equivalent relevant experience.
  • Has strong communication, organisational and ICT skills.
  • Is patient, flexible, resilient and committed to inclusive practice.
  • Can build positive relationships with students, families and colleagues.
  • Has high expectations for all students and is passionate about helping them achieve their potential.
  • Experience of working in a specialist setting, ARP, or with students with autism would be an advantage.
