Job Summary
Senior Dosimetrist (Band 7) at Worcester Oncology Centre, Worcester Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

Responsibilities
- Provide specialist technical expertise in Treatment Planning and Mould Room.
- Analyse and provide solutions to complex, non-standard situations.
- Discuss complex aspects of patient treatment with clinicians and scientists and interpret patient treatment related information.
- Organise work scheduling in Planning and Mould Room, adapting schedules to urgent requests.
- Lead activities in a specified area of the treatment planning or mould room service under guidance of Lead Dosimetrist or Head of Radiotherapy Physics; support clinical development projects.
- Maintain HPCP or RCT registration and be core member of relevant professional organisation (e. g., IPEM) with ongoing CPD.
- Maintain knowledge of developments in Radiotherapy, treatment planning, immobilisation, delineation and imaging modalities.
- Work autonomously with professional principles and Trust policies.
- Carry out quality control checks on complex radiotherapy equipment and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
- Supervise and support trainees, deliver training sessions and evaluate learning outcomes.
- Contribute to development and maintenance of the Radiotherapy Quality System.
- Design and develop spreadsheets/databases for radiotherapy physics and management.
- Participate in service development and minimise financial costs through effective equipment use.
- Work unsocial hours as necessary and cover colleague duties during absences.
- Undertake any other duties required by the Head of Radiotherapy Physics.
Qualifications
- Essential: Vocational Degree in Therapy Radiography, IPEM Diploma in Clinical Technology or equivalent.
- Desirable: Membership of the Voluntary Register of Clinical Technologists or State Registered Radiographer (HCPC).
Experience
- Essential: Significant experience in radiotherapy treatment planning; able to create and optimise simple and complex plans across clinical sites.
- Essential: Expertise in delineation of organs‑at‑risk for radiotherapy treatment planning.
- Desirable: Extensive experience in IMRT/VMAT, manufacture of immobilisation devices and lead/cerrobend products.
Skills & Knowledge
- Skill: Operate radiotherapy treatment and dosimetry equipment safely.
- Skill: Communicate technical information verbally and in written reports.
- Skill: Prepare and deliver presentations using Power Point or equivalent.
- Knowledge: Specialist knowledge of IMRT/VMAT, Mould Room and Treatment Planning; familiarity with dose measurement and linac quality control.
- Knowledge: Basic computer operation and spreadsheet analysis.
- Other Job Requirements
- Plan and organise own workload to meet targets (appointments, clinics, QC schedules).
- Plan training for small groups and supervise trainees.
- Manage workload of planning and mould room teams.
- Work effectively as part of a team.
