We are seeking two Band 8A Senior Radiotherapy Physicists to join the Radiotherapy Physics Department at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. The role will support all areas of the radiotherapy scientific service at an MPE level and lead agreed scientific developments within the allocated sub specialism. The position will be based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, and successful candidates will be expected to relocate with the service in early 2028 as part of the Hospital Transformation Programme.
Main Duties
- Act as an MPE across all radiotherapy physics areas
- Manage and mentor junior scientific and technical staff
- Implement service developments and conduct research and innovation projects aimed at peer‑reviewed publications and presentations
- Design and deliver advanced practical and theoretical training to a wide range of staff
- Operate and maintain Varian treatment machines, Aria/Eclipse, and other OIS/TPS platforms
- Perform quality control on equipment and treatment planning systems
- Work with SVRT programmes, AI auto‑contouring, surface‑guided radiotherapy, and adaptive radiotherapy platforms (e.g., Ethos, Evo, DIR, synthetic CT tools)
- Develop scripting/programming solutions using ESAPI, C++, Python, and other relevant tools
Person Specification
Essential
- Honours degree (1st or 2nd Class) in Physical Science
- Postgraduate M.Sc. in Medical Physics or equivalent knowledge
- Corporate membership of IPEM or equivalent experience
- HCPC Registered Clinical Scientist
- Approved as an MPE under RPA2000
- Minimum six years post‑registration experience
Desirable
- Ph.D.
- Practice as an accredited MPE in a UK centre
- Strong publication and presentation record in Radiotherapy Physics (≥3 in the last 3 years)
- Experience with Halcyon/Ethos platforms and online/offline IGRT
- Experience with Adaptive Radiotherapy Platforms & Tools (e.g., Ethos/EVO, DIR, synthetic CT tools)
- Scripting/programming experience (ESAPI, C++, Python)
