Job Summary

We are seeking to recruit 2 enthusiastic and experienced Radiotherapy Electronics Engineers to deliver a high‑quality maintenance & repair service to our Radiotherapy Service.

The role is ideal for engineers who hold a B.

Sc. degree (or equivalent) in electronics and electrical engineering and have a minimum of 10 years of experience working with linear accelerators (linacs) and related radiotherapy equipment.

Main duties of the job

  • Keep relevant scientific and technical records of work performed, ensuring the equipment management database is operated accurately and records are logged until completion.
  • Act as a member of the team responsible for the day‑to‑day running of preventive maintenance schedules for radiotherapy diagnostic and treatment machines, keeping detailed records of all work.
  • Prioritise work in accordance with department procedures and competing service demands, and propose improvements to working practices within the Electronics Section.
  • Assist other groups within the department in developing and constructing new and novel devices to support clinical activity and research.
  • Carry out all duties in accordance with Health and Safety at Work Act, statutory regulations, approved codes of conduct and local rules, reporting any potential breaches to the section manager.
  • Acquire specific knowledge on particular items of equipment and ensure clients receive prompt, efficient service, keeping them informed of progress.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • MSc/BSc/BEng/HNC or equivalent in electronic engineering.
  • Attended manufacturer's specialist courses on maintenance, repair, testing and calibration of linear accelerators and other radiotherapy equipment.
  • Aptitude for working with advanced electronic equipment; previous experience in a health environment.

Desired qualifications

  • Registered as a Clinical Technologist with the Institute of Physics & Engineering in Medicine or equivalent.
  • Incorporated‑level Engineer or professional membership of a relevant professional body.

Essential experience

  • Extensive experience in an electronic engineering healthcare environment with patient‑critical radiotherapy equipment, using circuit diagrams and service manuals for advanced fault finding and servicing.
  • Experience prioritising and managing own work, exercising initiative within one's specialist area.
  • Proficiency with databases and spreadsheets (Access, Excel, Word) and digital imaging tools used for maintenance, repair, test and calibration records.

Desirable experience

  • Supervising apprenticeships.
  • Managing ISO 9001‑certified QMS.
  • Experience managing MDR processes and compliance.

Essential skills and knowledge

  • Highly competent in using electronic workshop equipment (soldering irons, hand and bench drills, analogue and digital test equipment, including high‑voltage and current probes, oscilloscopes, multimeters, wavemeters).
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation and standards (Health & Safety at Work Regulations, Factories Act, Electricity at Work Regulations, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health).
  • Knowledge of hazards posed by ionising/non‑ionising radiation, liquid nitrogen, RF component implosion, fumes, oils, solvents, compressed gases, high‑temperature tools and torches.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001:2000 QMS.
  • Highly developed hand/eye coordination for manipulating fine tools and components in precision manufacture, assembly and testing of small and delicate parts.
