As an apprentice, you will work under the Treatment Planning and Mould Room teams, preparing CT scan data, creating clinical radiotherapy treatment plans and assisting in the production of immobilisation and dose delivery devices and equipment. The role is part of a 12‑month fixed‑term apprenticeship beginning September 2026.
Professional Development
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will have gained a fully funded, professionally accredited BSc (Hons) in Healthcare Science (Medical Physics Technology) with a specialization in radiotherapy physics. This involves attending an accredited university course while working full‑time in the hospital.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare CT scan data for use in treatment planning.
- Create clinical radiotherapy treatment plans.
- Assist in the production of immobilisation and dose delivery devices and equipment.
- Collaborate with dosimetrists, physicists and clinical technicians.
Qualifications and Experience
- Numerate and computer literate.
- Practical and analytical skills with a passion for science and technology in healthcare.
- Meeting the entry requirements for the UWE degree course: 128 UCAS points from A‑level (ABB, including at least one relevant science from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths or Physiology), plus Maths and English GCSE Grade C (4) or equivalent. Alternative qualifications may be accepted by the UWE admissions process.
Salary and Benefits
Band 5 (Agenda for Change) – starting salary £25,377 per annum for the apprenticeship, rising to £27,330 in year 2 and £29,282 in year 3. Upon completion the starting salary for a qualified band 5 post will be £32,073 per annum. Benefits include paid annual leave (27 days + bank holidays rising to 33 days + bank holidays), occupational health services, flexible working schemes, access to course funding, CPD support, and the standard NHS pension scheme. Additional perks may be available, such as national discount services and cycle‑to‑work scheme.
