Job Summary

We are recruiting Senior Therapeutic Radiographers to join a team of about 120 staff delivering an extensive range of advanced radiotherapy treatments. The role supports a busy treatment unit, collaborates with a team of radiographers, and contributes to safe, accurate and high‑quality patient care.

Responsibilities

• Work on a busy treatment unit providing safe and accurate highly specialised radiotherapy treatments.
• Support the Team Leader in managing clinical workloads, ensuring safe and correct delivery of all treatments and procedures.
• Maintain high technical and patient care standards, and promote best practice at an advanced level.
• Provide expert advice, support and guidance to junior staff and the multidisciplinary team.
• Operate a wide range of specialised equipment (Phillips CT scanners, CyberKnife, Tomotherapy HD, Radixact, HDR, Elekta linear accelerators with AlignRT). Undergo rotation across treatment rooms.
• Attend to service demands, including extended day coverage Monday–Friday (7:30 am to 8 pm), occasional bank holidays and some weekends.

Qualifications

• BSc (Hons) or Diploma in Therapeutic Radiography and/or post‑graduate diploma level experience (or equivalent).
• Current HCPC registration.
• Attendance of recent relevant postgraduate courses and study days, including assessment of undergraduates.
• Demonstrated interest and commitment to further professional development and qualification.

Desirable:

• Working towards or willing to undertake study for a further professional qualification.

Experience

• Clinical experience within the NHS as a radiographer on the full range of radiotherapy equipment.
• Experience assessing and teaching trainee radiographers.
• Specialist knowledge of cancer pathology and disease patterns.
• Specialist knowledge of clinical radiotherapy, radiation risks, acute patient side effects and management.
• Awareness of relevant legislation, national cancer standards and professional guidelines.
• Experience of undertaking clinical audits and surveys (desirable).
• Experience working in the NHS (desirable).

Additional Criteria

• Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, non‑verbal) across professional boundaries.
• Strong numerical skills for calculating and checking complex treatment plans.
• Ability to accurately interpret planning images and radiotherapy treatment prescriptions.
• Excellent technical and manual dexterity for operating equipment in a rapidly changing technological environment.
• Competent computer skills.
• Good reasoning skills with initiative and judgement in atypical situations.
• Ability to assimilate information and develop ideas or projects.
• Flexibility and willingness to undertake a wide range of duties across the department.
• Approachable, professional and a team worker.
• Willingness to participate in extended hours and bank holiday working.

Working Pattern

Full‑time, 37.5 hours over 5 days (Mon–Fri). Flexible working patterns are not offered at this time.

Salary

£39,959 to £48,117 per year (Band 6). Permanent contract.
