Overview

Catch22 College is the collective name for 7 sites across the country delivering academic and vocational training programmes for young people aged 16+ who, for whatever reason, are not suited to a mainstream school setting.

Our Peterlee, Bishop Auckland and Stanley sites, like our other School sites, provide students with a highly supportive environment where they can build confidence and self-belief, gain new skills, and work towards their goals in life. We exist to help our students find their future.

Role Details

The post is to work across all 3 Durham-based sites (1 day Stanley, 2 days Peterlee, 1 day Bishop) with a planning day at a site to be arranged based on the closest location to the candidate. We are an accredited centre for City and Guilds, NCFE and Edexcel.

The role of Vocational Tutor is an excellent opportunity to support learners in developing their knowledge and skills and helping them access appropriate training and employment opportunities.

As a qualified tutor, you will teach Employability and Customer Service to 16 to 19 year olds (up to 24 with an EHCP). You will be supported by our Lead Teachers, who are responsible for leading the team to drive up quality, reach and exceed KPIs, and promote an ethos of continuous improvement.

Access to a car, and a full driving licence, is required for this role.

Main Duties and Accountabilities

  • Delivering Digital Functional Skills and Customer Service.
  • Leading on the production of schemes of work for service delivery.
  • Preparing and developing innovative lesson plans, designing and delivering group activities.
  • Delivering training to individual learners and groups, following the programme curriculum, setting objectives and targets for achievement.
  • Providing one-to-one support to learners where necessary.

Qualifications

We are looking for applications who can demonstrate the following qualifications, experience, knowledge, and skills:

  • Professional qualification relevant to the area of instruction or relevant experience.
  • A relevant teaching qualification (equivalent to Degree, PGCE or Cert Ed).
  • Experience of teaching in an alternative provision environment; experience of teaching children with EAL, SEN, speech and language difficulties, and other complex needs.
  • Experience of working with disengaged or hard-to-reach young people, aged between 14 and 19 years old.
  • Ability to motivate and encourage children appropriately, with high expectations of pupils’ behaviour, and clear strategies for working with challenging pupils.
  • Knowledge of the statutory requirements of equal opportunities, discrimination, health and safety, SEN, and safeguarding of children.

Additional Information

Salary: £23,807.26 – £33,725.36 pro-rata, depending on experience (based on £26,097 to £36,969 FTE per annum)

Hours of work: Full time, 37 hours per week

Contract: Permanent, Term Time Only (41 weeks)
