Partnership: This role is a partnership with Mindworks Surrey and sits within our Young People and Families (YPF) hub, which provides early intervention, targeted and specialist support services to young people in crisis, leaving care, missing from home, or with substance misuse or mental health problems.
Job Description: The role of Smoke Free Generation Lead Practitioner is to design and lead a prevention, cessation and education service for children and young people aged 11–24 in Surrey, with the aim of reducing smoking prevalence and uptake. The role is part of our Surrey CYP’s Substance Misuse Service (SYPSMS). You will join a supportive team focused on developing self-esteem, confidence, and resilience to enable healthy, happy, and productive lives.
Responsibilities
- Design and lead the delivery of the Smoke Free Generation prevention, cessation and education service for CYP (ages 11–24) in Surrey.
- Deliver a gold standard, evidence-based cessation approach for young people, using NICE guidance.
- Develop an Education and Delivery Service to support young people considering vaping or smoking, including creating a network of Smoke Free Generation Ambassadors to signpost and support access to information and services.
- Work with the Surrey Young Person Substance Misuse Practitioners to deliver interventions; collaborate with colleagues who have completed the National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training (NCSCT) training.
- Operate within a tiered service model including specialist stop smoking, brief advice/intervention, and self-help/signposting components.
- Engage and work with young people and families, ensuring high-quality engagement and support, and maintain appropriate records in line with Catch22 policies.
Qualifications
- A relevant qualification such as youth work, counselling, health and social care, and/or relevant experience of therapeutic delivery.
- Good communication, organisational, and ICT skills.

- Knowledge and competency in delivering young smoking cessation interventions tailored to individual needs.
- Experience or understanding of supporting children and young people with emotional wellbeing and mental health needs.
- Ability to maintain high-quality record keeping in a timely manner per Catch22 outcomes and procedures.
- Ability to deliver high-quality engagement and support to young people and families; collaborative and professional partnership working with colleagues and partner agencies.
Additional Information
- Salary: £18,513 per annum pro rata; £32,618.14 FTE (37 hours).
- Hours of Work: 21 hours per week.
- Contract: Permanent.
- Flexibility: Opportunities for flexible homeworking (main office is in Leatherhead).
- 1 x Smoke Free Generation Lead Practitioner role covering the West of Surrey.
- Requires an up-to-date driving licence, access to a vehicle, MOT and business insurance.
- May be required to work out of hours (evenings/weekends) and travel around Surrey and occasionally the UK.
- Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check required.
