Our Young People and Families (YPF) hub provides early intervention, targeted and specialist support services to those in crisis, leaving care, missing from home or with substance misuse or mental health problems. Our services support people no matter what their situation – and have demonstrated a high success rate.

Job Description

The role of smoke free generation lead practitioner – Smoke Free Generation is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of children and CYP (CYP). The role/s will be part of our existing Surrey CYP’s Substance Use Service (SYPSUS). You will be joining a supportive and dedicated team, who are driven to build and develop the self-esteem, confidence, and resilience of young people – reducing the potential harm, and enabling young people to lead healthy, happy, and productive lives.

The overall aim of the Smoke Free Generation lead role is to design and be the lead to deliver a ‘smoke free generation’ prevention, cessation and education, service for CYP to reduce the smoking prevalence for young people aged 11-24 in Surrey and to stop and reduce the rate that young people take up smoking and vaping.

The service will consist of three components of service delivery:

Component A – Smoking and Vaping Education Prevention Service
Component B – Smoking and Vaping Cessation Service – delivery of a gold standard, evidence-based approach, to reduce smoking and vaping among children and young people aged 11-24, using NICE Guidance.
Component C – Education and Delivery Service -support CYP to stop vaping or smoking. Develop an education and delivery service to support young people who may be considering, vaping or smoking, that includes creating a network of Smoke Free Generation Ambassadors who can signpost and support young people to the appropriate information and services.

The service model, is based on a tiered framework:

  • A specialist stop smoking service.
  • Brief advice / intervention
  • Self-help and signposting

You will work alongside the Surrey Young person Substance Use Practitioners, who will also have undertaken the National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training (NCSCT), and can support you in delivering interventions to CYP.

Qualifications

  • A relevant qualification such as youth work, counselling, health and social care, and/or relevant experience of therapeutic delivery, and alternative suitable qualifications.
  • Good communication, organisational, and ICT skills.

  • You will demonstrate knowledge and competency in delivering youngSmoking Cessationinterventions, to a wide arrange of individuals, according to their needs.
  • You will have knowledge/understanding and or direct experience of supporting C&YP who are experiencing difficulties with their emotional wellbeing and mental health.
  • You will evidence that you are able to work to a high standard of record keeping in a timely manner, in accordance with Catch22 delivery outcomes, targets and recording procedures.
  • You will be able to deliver and evidence high quality engagement and support to the young people and families we work with.
  • You will communicate and work collaboratively, constructively and effectively with colleagues and partner agencies, ensuring effective partnership working, representing Catch22 professionally at all times, and contributing positively to the team and Catch22.

Additional Information

Salary: Up to £27,000

Hours of Work: 37 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

Flexibility: Opportunities for flexible working (main office is in Leatherhead)

This role is to cover the West of Surrey

Additional requirements: This role requires an up to date driving licence, access to a vehicle, MOT and business insurance.

Additional requirements: You may be required to work out of hours, including evenings and weekends where necessary, in addition to travel around Surrey on a daily basis, and occasional travel around the UK.

Additional requirements: Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check required.
