GAIN Experience – Content Designer – multiple vacancies

We’re looking for a content designer to join our team of caring, ambitious and curious content specialists. It’s an exciting time to be part of the content design team as we develop our services and how we work.
As a content designer at GAIN Experience, you’ll create and deliver clear and engaging user-centred content for different formats such as services, guides and forms.
Most of your time will be spent on long-term public sector projects where you’ll be embedded in multidisciplinary user-centred design teams, working with civil servants and GAIN Experience colleagues.
- Working as part of team to redesign a service to search and apply for jobs for a government department
- Reviewing content for best practice for a utility company
- Working with designers and developers to create a new website for an ambulance service
- Conducting a content audit and updating content for an exam board
- Beyond the support of the content design team, you’ll work alongside and learn from other user-centred design experts including user researchers, accessibility consultants, interaction designers and service designers.
Requirements
- Solid content or writing experience, ideally within a digital agency or in-house design or digital team
- Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills
- Experience creating content for different audiences, formats and channels
- Knowledge of user research methodologies and how to use research to guide content decisions is desirable
- Familiar with agile ways of working and comfortable working in a multidisciplinary team to create content that meets user needs
- Familiar with Government Digital Service standards
- Understanding of accessibility regulations and how they apply to content
- Understanding of how to create inclusive content
- Experience using different content management systems and collaborative tools (such as Figma, Miro and GatherContent) is desirable
- Knowledge of SEO is a bonus
- An interest in using AI in content design is an advantage
- Excellent attention to detail as well as the ability to look at the big picture
- Proactive, flexible and curious, with an appetite to learn and share knowledge
- Comfortable adapting to changing priorities and deadlines
- Excellent communication skills – written, verbal, listening and presenting
- Genuine empathy with users and a desire to put users at the heart of your work
- Ability to work with different people at different levels of seniority, both colleagues and clients
- Comfortable explaining content decisions to stakeholders
- Creative in your approach to activities, as well as problem solving and good at identifying different options and recommending solutions
- Open to giving and receiving constructive feedback on design work
Education
A qualification in English, humanities or social sciences can be an advantage but is not essential.
Evidence of building your content design and user-centred design understanding beyond on-the-job learning is beneficial. For example, qualifications, courses, events, reading, mentoring and networking.
