Catapult is building the future of sports performance technology, with a mission to unleash the potential of every athlete and team on earth. Since 2006, our solutions have been leading the way in sports performance software, science, and data, in a world where 1% can literally mean the difference between winning and losing. We work with over 5,000 teams around the world, empowering coaches, managers and trainers in premier teams in the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLS, EPL, AFL, NRL, NCAA and more. We provide the information they need to optimize athletes’ health, game‑day readiness, and performance, as well as in‑game tactics.

We are looking for a talented and inquisitive Principal DevOps Engineer whose drive for learning and determination for continuous improvement aligns with our ambitious, fast‑growing and transforming company. Based in our London office, you will be a key player in planning, designing, building and testing the features of our next‑generation cloud platform that combines digital video assets, wearable data and athlete information to provide insights and analytics to coaching/support staff, sports scientists and athletes to assist in optimizing athlete performance.

What You’ll Do:

  • Cloud & Platform Engineering
    • Infrastructure Automation & IaC: Own infrastructure provisioning and configuration management (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
    • Observability & Reliability: Design, build and maintain logging, monitoring, alerting, and SLO/SLI frameworks to ensure system health and performance.
    • Software Delivery Pipelines: Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines to enable fast, safe, and repeatable software delivery.
    • Infrastructure Operations & Governance: Oversee the availability, scalability, and performance of cloud and on‑prem infrastructure while ensuring all systems remain strictly aligned with corporate security standards and global regulatory compliance.
  • Cloud Security
    • Cloud Security & Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant compliance and regulatory frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR as applicable) and implement best practices cloud security controls.
    • Security Operation: Lead security first approach, collaborate with Security and IT teams to make sure our infrastructure is patched according to SLAs.
    • Application Security (AppSec): Collaborate with security teams to embed security controls into CI/CD pipelines and platform services.
  • Technology leader
    • Architectural Roadmap & Vision: Define and execute the long‑term technical roadmap for Catapult’s global cloud platform, evaluating emerging technologies (e.g., Serverless, AI‑driven operations, and Containerization) to ensure the infrastructure remains cutting‑edge, scalable, and best to used by our customers.
    • Technical Governance & Standards: Be a big contribution to infrastructure decisions, establishing "Golden Paths" and reusable Infrastructure as Code patterns that dictate how engineering teams deploy services while ensuring consistency across all environments.
    • Strategic Security & Compliance Integration: Architect and champion a "Shift-Left" security strategy, mandating the integration of automated security guardrails and compliance auditing into the core fabric of the CI/CD pipelines to protect athlete and video data globally.

What You’ll Need:

  • Significant experience in DevOps, Site Reliability, Platform or Infrastructure Engineering, with tenure in technical leadership role.
  • Deep expertise in the AWS cloud platform and associated security and compliance practices.
  • Strong background in infrastructure automation (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, and observability tooling.
  • Proven experience with big platform re‑design, architecture of new cloud infrastructure systems based on software and business requirements.
  • Solid understanding of AppSec principles, including integrating security into build and deploy pipelines.
  • Experience managing hybrid environments, including traditional data centres and on‑prem services.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; ability to influence across engineering, security, and finance.
  • Experience with regulated industries (e.g., healthcare, fintech).
  • Familiarity with multiple compliance frameworks (SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI‑DSS).

What Your Success Will Look Like:

In 6 months time…

  • Infrastructure Ownership: You will fully own the cloud infrastructure, having gained a deep understanding of all interconnected parts that support their athlete and video data services.
  • Established Automation: You will have taken control of infrastructure provisioning and configuration management, ensuring that Terraform or Ansible are being used effectively for IaC.
  • Observability Implementation: You will have designed and begun maintaining essential logging, monitoring, and SLO/SLI frameworks to ensure high system health and performance.
  • Have a full understanding of Catapult’s products and the way we are working in order to be able to architect any new future existing or new product.

In 12 months time…

  • End to End Platform Ownership: You will take full accountability for the evolution of our production ecosystem, architecting a resilient, "deploy-anywhere" infrastructure that scales seamlessly with software demands and business growth.
  • Optimized Delivery: You will have refined the CI/CD pipelines to a state where software delivery is consistently fast, safe, and repeatable across the engineering team.
  • Integrated Security and Compliance: You will have transitioned the platform to a "security‑first" architecture, successfully embedding automated AppSec controls and vulnerability scanning directly into the CI/CD pipelines.
  • Cross‑Departmental Influence: Your success will be reflected in your ability to influence stakeholders across engineering, security, and finance to drive technical and operational improvements.
