We want people who are passionate about making coaches more productive.
We are looking for a foundational Senior Web Engineer to spearhead our transition into modern web and mobile application ecosystems. Currently, our core engineering strengths lie in high-performance C++/Qt desktop development. However, as our platform evolves, we are increasingly moving key administrative, collaborative, and customer-facing workflows to the web and mobile wrapped environments. This role is a unique hybrid of architecture, rapid product prototyping, and strategic engineering leadership. You will be the first "pure web" engineer on this team, responsible for bridging our existing backend architecture with high-fidelity, production-grade frontend applications.
What you’ll do:
- Productize Core Utilities: Transform an existing library of internal scripts, data importers, and management tools into reliable, production-ready web applications.
- Migrate & Innovate Workflows: Decentralize complex workflows (such as group administration and user management) out of traditional thick clients and rebuild them into seamless web and hybrid experiences.
- Serve as a "Tiger Team" Catalyst: Act as a high-mobility rapid responder to build bespoke tools, custom league integrations, and special project solutions for high-profile clients where pivoting our core platform (Focus) is too heavy.
- Establish Engineering Standards: Define modern web best practices, set up robust CI/CD pipelines, and collaborate with Catapult’s wider web divisions to align technology stacks.
- Lay the Foundation for a Team: Anchor the team's web-technology domain expertise, mentoring C++/Qt engineers looking to expand their skills while preparing to lead and scale a dedicated web development squad in the future.
What you’ll need:
- Deep Web Ecosystem Expertise: Extensive professional experience with React, modern JavaScript/TypeScript, and building cross-platform apps wrapped in Electron and React Native.
- Application-Layer Focus with Backend Literacy: Strong experience consuming complex internal APIs and managing frontend state, complemented by a solid understanding of database design and backend architecture for when custom services are required.
- Architectural & DevOps Autonomy: Demonstrated ability to build web environments from scratch, including configuring optimized developer workflows, automated testing, and deployment pipelines.
- Pragmatic & Fast-Paced Problem Solving: A proven track record of operating in a "tiger team" style capacity—capable of rapidly prototyping and delivering high-impact features under tight timelines for enterprise partners.
- Technical Leadership Aptitude: Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the desire or experience required to mentor peers, align with cross-functional teams, and eventually transition into an engineering lead.
What your success will look like:
In 6 months time…
- Our primary internal utilities and importers are launched as stable, production-grade web applications.
- Key administrative workflows are decoupled from thick clients and successfully deployed to the web ecosystem.
- You have established independent web CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.
- You execute the web roadmap self-sufficiently, taking strategic direction from the Head of Basketball, Ice Hockey & Baseball.
In 12 months time…
- You operate with high autonomy, proactively identifying web-based solutions and directing how they are architected.
- You are leading a small, lean squad of web developers, cultivating high standards and mentoring peers.
- Your team is recognized for rapid turnaround times, flawlessly executing special requests for elite teams and major leagues.
