On Target Earnings: £60,000 – £70,000 in Year 1, with a structured, scalable commission model increasing year-on-year (£70,000 – £80,000 in Year 2, £80,000 – £90,000+ in Year 3) driven by re-engagement revenue. We are seeking a proactive and relationship driven Business Development Manager to support our continued growth. In this role you will focus on connecting with innovative businesses across the UK, building meaningful, long-term relationships. Your focus will be on understanding each prospect’s projects, ambitions and identifying where our expertise can make a real difference. You will take full ownership of the new business process from identifying prospects and starting conversations through to pitching, proposals and welcoming new clients onboard.
Key Responsibilities
- New Business Acquisition: You will be responsible for building and maintaining a healthy pipeline of new opportunities through proactive outreach, networking and meaningful conversations. You will manage the new business journey from initial contact and discovery discussions through to high level claim reviews, proposals and onboarding.
- Relationship Building & Partnerships: You will build and nurture strong relationships with accountants, incubators, consultants and other strategic partners. You will represent the company at industry events particularly within sectors such as engineering, manufacturing, climate tech and software. You will also support collaborative campaigns and content sharing activities designed to educate and engage our network.
- CRM & Reporting: You will maintain accurate and up to date CRM records, ensuring they reflect real activity and opportunity status. You will share regular updates on key metrics to support forecasting, planning and wider team visibility. Working closely with the marketing team, you will provide insights that help shape lead generation and thought leadership initiatives.
- Client Experience & Handover: You will work closely with our Client Project Management team to ensure every new client receives a smooth and well structured onboarding experience. You will participate in pre-kickoff handover meetings, sharing key insights gathered during the sales process to minimise repetition for the clients and ensure a seamless transition into delivery.

Our offices are based in South Gloucestershire, and for team members who are local, we enjoy spending time together in the office and believe it adds real value to collaboration and learning. However, we are proud that we don’t set office days and actively support flexible ways of working, as most of all we value the right people with the right desire to learn and develop. Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Scientific or a Technology Degree would be ideal but not required.
- Experience: 3+ years’ experience in a consultative B2B sales or business development preferably within R&D tax consultancy, accountancy or professional services, technology or innovation funding. Strong understanding of solution led selling and value articulation. Knowledge of R&D tax relief, Patent Box or innovation funding. Experience attending and presenting at industry events.
- Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust quickly. Confidence managing longer, multi-stakeholder sales cycles. A proactive, self-driven mindset with the ability to work autonomously. Strong commercial awareness and ability to quantify value for clients.
