Overview
As a New Business Underwriter within our Construction Managing General Agency (MGA), you will play a pivotal role in supporting the underwriting process for construction-related insurance products. You will assist in evaluating risks, assessing new business policy applications, and ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Underwrite new business opportunities in the construction insurance sector (Casualty, Contractors All Risks, Excess Liability) in alignment with underwriting guidelines, risk appetite, and personal underwriting authority limits.
- Assess risk exposures, policy terms, and pricing to ensure profitability and risk management, and that risks are underwritten in accordance with authority.
- Stay updated on market trends, industry regulations, and emerging risks to adapt underwriting strategy accordingly.
- Support broker strategy and relationships by cultivating and maintaining strong, productive relationships with broker partners to foster a collaborative and mutually beneficial working environment.
- Engage with Casus broker network to understand their needs and objectives and support them in achieving their goals.
- Educate brokers on products, underwriting approach, and risk appetite; collaborate with the business development team to identify and target new broker relationships, expanding the distribution network.
- Act as a liaison between brokers and the senior underwriting team, facilitating communication and addressing enquiries or concerns in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to identify new broker partnerships and opportunities for expanding market presence.
- Participate in broker meetings, presentations, and training sessions to enhance understanding of our products and services and strengthen relationships.
- Gather feedback from brokers regarding market needs, competitive landscape, and customer preferences to inform product development and underwriting decisions.
- Ensure underwritten business aligns with Casus risk appetite and underwriting strategy to deliver a profitable portfolio.
- Provide support with testing, deployment, and ongoing improvements of the underwriting platform; collaborate with IT to gather requirements and prioritize enhancements.
- Actively participate in the development and improvement of underwriting processes, guidelines, and tools; provide feedback to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of underwriting operations.
- Ensure personal development and completion of minimum CPD hours required under IDD or personal qualification requirements.
