We are seeking a practical, reliable and proactive Estates & Grounds Lead to help maintain Castlehead Medical Centre and its grounds to a high standard. This is a flexible, part‑time role with variable hours, typically around 10 hours per month, with additional hours available during busier periods. The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring our premises remain safe, welcoming and well maintained for patients, visitors and staff. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys a varied role and can work independently to identify and address maintenance issues before they become larger problems. From maintaining our grounds and outdoor spaces to carrying out minor repairs and decorating tasks, this role offers the opportunity to make a visible difference to the appearance and upkeep of our practice.

Main duties of the job

  • Maintaining the appearance, safety and functionality of the medical centre and its grounds.
  • Grass cutting, hedge trimming, keeping outdoor areas tidy, clearing gutters, carrying out painting and decorating, undertaking minor repairs and supporting the general upkeep of the premises.
  • Working independently, managing routine maintenance tasks, identifying issues requiring attention and helping ensure that the practice environment remains safe, clean and welcoming for patients, visitors and staff.
  • Liaising with contractors and supporting the practice with other maintenance‑related activities as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Grass cutting and lawn maintenance.
  • Hedge trimming and pruning.
  • Keeping the grounds, pathways, and external areas clean, tidy and presentable.
  • Clearing and cleaning gutters.
  • Painting and decorating as required.
  • Carrying out minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Monitoring the condition of the premises and reporting any issues requiring specialist attention.
  • Assisting with routine health and safety checks.
  • Liaising with contractors when required.
  • Supporting the general upkeep and appearance of the medical centre.

About You

  • Have experience in grounds maintenance, caretaking, property maintenance, or a similar role.
  • Be practical and confident carrying out a range of maintenance tasks.

  • Basic skills in plumbing, joinery, decorating or other building maintenance trades.

Experience

  • Experience of grounds maintenance, caretaking, property maintenance, facilities management or a similar role.
  • Experience carrying out general maintenance tasks and minor repairs.
  • Experience of working independently and managing workload without close supervision.
  • Experience working within a healthcare, public sector, education or commercial premises environment.
  • Experience of liaising with contractors and external service providers.
  • Experience undertaking painting and decorating work.

Qualifications

  • Good standard of general education, including literacy and numeracy sufficient to maintain records and communicate effectively.
  • Qualification in property maintenance, facilities management, building trades, grounds maintenance, horticulture or a related discipline.
  • Health and Safety qualification e.g. IOSH Working Safely or equivalent.
