Castlefield Recruitment are currently working with a Public Sector organisation in Yorkshire to recruit an FOI Manager on an interim contract until the end of the year. The role can be worked on a flexible, hybrid or remote basis and is offering Β£27 - Β£30 per hour through an umbrella company.

The Role:

  • Draft high-quality responses to Freedom of Information (FOI) and Subject Access Requests (SARs) for review, ensuring statutory deadlines are met.
  • Act as the first point of contact for all internal and external FOI and SAR enquiries or correspondence.
  • Accurately log and track FOI and SAR requests from a variety of sources, maintaining up-to-date records throughout the request lifecycle.
  • Liaise with departments across the organisation to gather required information and ensure timely, appropriate responses.
  • Provide advice and support to staff responsible for supplying information, helping them understand their obligations under the FOI Act and UK GDPR.
  • Process incoming requests, analyse recurring themes or issues, and produce reports to support transparency and compliance.
  • Ensure requests are managed in line with legislation, applying exemptions and redactions where appropriate.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive personal information in line with data protection principles.
  • Identify opportunities for improving FOI and SAR procedures and contribute to updates in policies and guidance.
  • Support wider information governance and compliance initiatives as required.

The Person:

  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of handling Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, including understanding of statutory deadlines and applicable exemptions.
  • Experience in processing Subject Access Requests (SARs) under UK GDPR, with a strong understanding of redaction and disclosure rules.
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage a caseload with minimal supervision.
  • Experience drafting written responses and reports to a high professional standard.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work with a wide range of colleagues and explain complex information governance requirements.
  • Ability to identify trends, monitor compliance, and report on FOI/SAR performance.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in managing sensitive and confidential information.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.
