We are seeking a highly motivated Healthcare Assistant to join our dedicated team, supporting both clinical and administrative functions to ensure the highest standard of patient care. As an integral part of our multi-disciplinary team, you will assist in various clinical procedures, promote health and wellness, and contribute to the smooth operation of the practice. This role is ideal for a proactive, compassionate individual who is eager to work in a fast-paced environment and make a meaningful impact on patient health and well-being. The hours can be discussed and will be around 20-25 per week, across days to be agreed.

Main duties of the job:

  • Support the registered nurses in implementing an agreed plan of care in association with the patient and in accordance with instructions and training received whilst promoting safe patient care.
  • Be willing to develop and apply new skills to maintain and enhance clinical service delivery.

Job responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive new patient health assessments and document findings accurately.
  • Assist in chronic disease management and health promotion clinics, working closely with practice nurses.
  • Perform baseline clinical observations, including pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, and pulse rate.
  • Administer wound care, dressings, and other minor clinical procedures within scope.
  • Accurately measure and record Body Mass Index (BMI) for patients.
  • Act as a chaperone during patient examinations when required.
  • Carry out ECGs as directed by clinicians.
  • Provide support in vaccinations and immunisations.
  • Ensure meticulous record-keeping in line with practice protocols and compliance regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in a primary care or GP practice setting.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to follow clinical protocols.
  • Experience in conducting new patient health checks.
  • Proficiency in wound care, dressings, and clinical assessments.
  • Skilled in phlebotomy procedures.
  • Knowledge of infection control procedures and best practices.
  • Familiarity with EMIS Web.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification.
  • Additional training in chronic disease management or smoking cessation.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

£14.04 an hour, depending on skills and experience.
