Our client is looking to appoint an experienced Tax Advisor/Manager to join their team based in Inverness. The purpose of the role is to provide tax compliance and advisory services to a diverse range of clients. The successful applicant will maintain up to date knowledge of complex tax legislation in order to manage HMRC enquiries and deliver bespoke tax planning advice to clients.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Advisory & Tax Planning: Develop tax-efficient strategies for personal or corporate clients to support their financial goals. Advising on inheritance tax, capital gains tax, and estate planning (private client).
  • Compliance & Technical Work: Prepare and review personal, partnership, or corporate tax returns and computations.
  • HMRC Liaison: Represent clients in disputes, enquiries, and negotiations with HMRC.
  • Research & Legislation: Research and interpret changes in UK and overseas tax legislation, producing reports and recommendations.
  • Client Management: Act as the primary contact for a portfolio of clients, building strong relationships and providing clear, proactive advice. Supervise and mentor junior tax staff or trainees, reviewing work and assisting with their technical development.

Person Specification:

  • CTA qualified or ATT qualified with strong progression toward CTA, or holding a similar professional qualification (ACA/ACCA) with tax specialization.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant tax experience within an accountancy practice or specialized tax consultancy.
  • Strong understanding of current UK tax legislation and its practical application.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and specialized tax software.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to explain complex tax legislation simply to non-tax specialists.
  • Ability to manage deadlines, especially given strict tax return filing dates.
