As a Legal Counsel, you will form part of a small legal team and operate in a generalist capacity, working across the various business lines within the Bank. You will have the opportunity to provide legal advice in relation to matters in Residential Property, Consumer Credit/Finance and Savings. Should any matters of litigation arise, you will play an important and key role in supporting the business and mitigate risk. Another focus of this role will be to review, negotiate and create contracts with suppliers and other external counterparties, in addition to supporting the General Counsel in ensuring that the Bank’s standard form documentation is properly maintained.

The role will be on a hybrid working arrangement, 3 days a week from our London office and the rest of the week from home. This is a fixed-term contract opportunity covering a period of maternity leave for up to 14 months.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice in relation to Residential Property, Consumer Credit/Finance and Savings.
  • Support the business in matters of litigation and mitigate risk.
  • Review, negotiate and create contracts with suppliers and other external counterparties.
  • Support the General Counsel in ensuring that the Bank’s standard form documentation is properly maintained.

What we are looking for

  • Qualified solicitor (UK practising certificate) with demonstrable post-qualification experience.
  • In-house experience preferred, ideally within banking; other regulated financial institutions will be considered.
  • Experience in real estate finance or consumer finance is desirable to allow you to hit the ground running.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, sound technical legal skills, commercial mindset, and a natural problem solver with the ability to innovate while providing exceptional customer service to stakeholders.
