We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nursing Associate to join our friendly and supportive nursing team at Castle Partnership. This is an exciting opportunity for a Nursing Associate who is keen to develop their career in general practice and contribute to high-quality, patient-centred care across our three Norwich sites. The role would suit someone who enjoys working as part of a wider multidisciplinary team and is confident delivering delegated clinical care within their scope of practice.

Main duties

The successful candidate will support the nursing team with a varied range of clinical work, including, but not limited to, health checks, observations, wound care, long‑term condition support, lifestyle advice, ECGs, venepuncture, blood pressure monitoring, and other appropriately delegated clinical duties. Depending on training, competence and local authorisation, the role may also include supporting immunisation programmes and cervical screening.

Job responsibilities

The Registered Nursing Associate will work as an important member of the nursing and wider multidisciplinary team, supporting the delivery of safe, effective and patient‑centred care to the practice population. The post holder will work within their own scope of practice, NMC Code and professional standards, undertaking delegated clinical duties and contributing to the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care under the direction of Registered Nurses, GPs and other appropriate registered clinicians. The role is designed to complement the work of Practice Nurses, Healthcare Assistants and GPs, helping to ensure patients receive timely, high‑quality care while supporting the development of general practice nursing services.

Key responsibilities

Clinical care

  • Provide safe, compassionate and evidence‑based care to patients in line with national guidance, local policies and agreed practice protocols.
  • Work within the Nursing Associate scope of practice and recognise the limits of their own competence.
  • Undertake delegated clinical tasks, escalating appropriately where patients present with concerns outside the post holders scope or competence.
  • Support patients with health promotion, lifestyle advice and disease prevention.
  • Carry out new patient health checks and NHS Health Checks, where appropriately trained.
  • Undertake clinical observations, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturations, height, weight and BMI.
  • Undertake phlebotomy, ECGs, urinalysis and blood glucose monitoring.
  • Support long‑term condition reviews, including hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and respiratory care, within agreed competencies and under the direction of the nursing team.
  • Support wound care and dressings within agreed competence.
  • Undertake foot checks and other delegated review work where trained and competent.
  • Support smoking cessation and other public health initiatives.
  • Support immunisation and vaccination programmes only where appropriately trained, competent and authorised under the correct legal mechanism, such as a Patient Specific Direction or other approved national/local arrangement.
  • Undertake cervical screening only if appropriately trained, competent and authorised.
  • Act as a chaperone when required and in line with practice policy.
  • Maintain accurate, clear and contemporaneous clinical records using SystmOne.

The post holder will:

  • Work collaboratively with Practice Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, GPs, pharmacists, paramedics, care coordinators, Patient Service Coordinators and the wider practice team.
  • Participate in regular nursing meetings, clinical supervision, training and appraisals.
  • Support Trainee Nursing Associates, Healthcare Assistants and other colleagues where appropriate.
  • Contribute to a positive, supportive and learning‑focused team culture.
  • Escalate clinical concerns, safeguarding concerns, incidents or risks promptly and appropriately.

Quality, safety and service development

The post holder will:

  • Contribute to the delivery of QOF, enhanced services and practice targets within their scope of practice.
  • Follow infection prevention and control policies, cold chain procedures, information governance requirements and health and safety policies.
  • Participate in audits, quality improvement work and service development where appropriate.
  • Support the practice in maintaining high standards of patient care, documentation and clinical governance.
  • Maintain NMC registration and meet revalidation requirements.
  • Take responsibility for ongoing professional development and mandatory training.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • Registered Nursing Associate with current NMC registration.
  • Foundation Degree Nursing Associate qualification or equivalent approved Nursing Associate qualification.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Commitment to maintaining NMC registration and meeting revalidation requirements.
  • Previous experience in general practice or community healthcare.
  • Experience using SystmOne.
  • Training or experience in wound care.
  • Training or experience in long‑term condition reviews, such as hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, asthma or COPD.
  • Immunisation and vaccination training, with understanding that Nursing Associates must work under the correct legal authorisation and cannot work under PGDs.
  • Cervical screening qualification or willingness to undertake training if appropriate to the role.
  • Experience contributing to QOF, enhanced services, audits or quality improvement.
  • Experience supporting students, trainees or less experienced colleagues.
  • Interest in further developing within general practice nursing.

Experience

  • Experience of delivering direct patient care in a healthcare setting.
  • Understanding of the Nursing Associate role and scope of practice.
  • Ability to work safely within delegated duties and recognise when to escalation.
  • Good clinical skills relevant to primary care, such as observations, phlebotomy, ECGs, urinalysis, blood pressure monitoring and health checks.
  • Good communication skills with patients, carers and colleagues.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good organisational skills and ability to manage time effectively.
  • Commitment to patient‑centred care, health promotion and prevention.
  • Understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding, infection control and clinical governance.
  • Good IT skills and ability to maintain accurate clinical records.
  • Flexibility to work across all three Castle Partnership sites.
