Job Description
Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 per annum
Location: York, East Yorkshire (Elvington area)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, fully office-based
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
Are you a commercially minded Management Accountant who enjoys getting behind the numbers, challenging the status quo and making a real difference to business performance?
We are working with a growing Yorkshire-based manufacturing and wholesale business to recruit a Commercial Management Accountant into a newly created role. This is an excellent opportunity to move beyond traditional financial reporting and become a key commercial partner to the Senior Leadership Team.
With direct access to the Managing Director, you'll have the freedom to shape financial reporting, improve pricing and profitability, and provide the commercial insight that supports better business decisions.
This is a hands-on, varied opportunity where your ideas, curiosity and analytical thinking will genuinely make an impact.
What you'll be doing
-
Taking ownership of the monthly management accounts, financial reporting and balance sheet reconciliations.
-
Working closely with the Managing Director and operational teams to provide meaningful commercial analysis and recommendations.
-
Analysing product margins, customer profitability, pricing and supplier costs to identify opportunities for improvement.
-
Developing budgets, forecasts, cashflow reporting and financial models to support business planning.
-
Investigating trends, challenging assumptions and turning financial information into practical commercial actions.
-
Improving stock costing, working capital visibility and financial processes across the business.
-
Overseeing payroll, financial controls and day-to-day finance activities, with support from a Business Administrator.
-
Supporting commercial projects and helping the leadership team make informed decisions that drive sustainable growth.
What we're looking for
We're keen to speak with Management Accountants, Senior Management Accountants and Finance Business Partners who enjoy combining strong accounting fundamentals with commercial thinking.
You'll bring:
-
Proven experience producing monthly management accounts and interpreting financial performance.
-
Strong Excel skills, analytical ability and excellent attention to detail.
-
A proactive, commercially curious approach, with the confidence to question figures and recommend improvements.
-
Experience working collaboratively with operational teams and influencing business decisions.
-
A sound understanding of budgeting, forecasting, cashflow and financial controls.
-
The ability to take ownership, manage competing priorities and work effectively within a hands-on SME environment.
Experience within manufacturing, wholesale, distribution or another product-led business would be advantageous, particularly if you've worked with pricing, stock, costing or margin analysis.
ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualifications are welcomed, whether part-qualified or fully qualified, although candidates qualified by experience with strong commercial capability are equally encouraged to apply.
What's in it for you?
-
£45,000 - £50,000 salary, depending on experience.
- 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays.
- Private healthcare.
-
Performance-related bonus, subject to confirmation.
-
A newly created role with genuine scope to shape the finance function.
-
A place within the Senior Leadership Team, working directly with the Managing Director.
-
The opportunity to influence commercial decisions, pricing strategies and profitability.
-
A varied, hands-on position within a growing Yorkshire business with ambitious plans.
This role is based on-site in the Elvington area of York, working 37.5 hours per week.
